Telling me god or the bibe says so is not persuasive. If I agree with something that's supposedly the "word of god," it's because I think it's good, not because I want to follow god. If a person wants to tell me I believe because god is in me, fine, he can believe what he wants, but is it too much to ask to not be told how to live solely because god says so?

Well this is the "religion and spirituality" section. So you should expect to see post about the bible, religion, spirit, auras, karma, and other spiritual type stuff. You don't have to live a certain way because God says so. Live you life exactly how you see fit. No pressure.

Also why are you so up in arms about thinking that the "word of God" is good? Religious philosophy is not dangerous and you will not die from it. Some atheist want you to believe this. They want you to feel like a fool for even remotely considering the religious philosophy. I'm not saying that you should, fall blindly into the arms of next preacher that you see. Even God doesn't want you to do that. But why shut it out. What are you afraid of. They are only words. Are some people who talk of God and religion hypocrites? Absolutely, but the root of most long lasting religions is peace and love. I bet I can find a few hypocrites in your household if I sat with your family.

The only thing Objective about the Truth of God is it's very subjectivity. God said: " I AM", and you know what? He IS.
God is everything. God IS your truth. God IS his truth.
God IS Truth. God IS.
The problem isn't with the creator but with the created.
The created, born in to the finite universe, finds itself unable to grasp the totality of IS.
even nothing is something in that it negates and defines something. God is beyond our duality.
God can NOT exist for the Atheist AND be a poor, carpenters' son to the Christian.
God is a very personal relationship between creator and created that exists only within the human minds' ability to comprehend. The infinte can only relate to the finite if it fragments..... like light through a prism.
To much disagreement comes from mistaking our "beliefs" for the final word and the only Truth.
In the end, so much life is wasted in a futile attempt at enforcing the little ray of light we may have been blessed with that we miss the blazing sun of the real message.
We get stuck in facts, in history and words.
God doesn't live in your books.
the "word" has taken the purpose of life and wasted it with repetition and discipline.
God is alive, God IS life, God IS
Now get over it, allow people to live their own way and stop legislating your beliefs into others' way of life.
You'll find both the atheist and the preacher now have a more peaceful outlook and maybe we can get on with the business of living and make this world a heaven on earth.

Some do. It is insulting to God, but He can handle it. The thing is, our lives depend on Him. If it were not for Him creating an environment where we can live, we would die.

As nothing man or science of man can do to prolong life more than a few years, would it not be prudent to listen to one who can grant eternal life as He promised? Every other promise He has made, He has accomplished, so why not this one? It is the same standard we used for hiring a contractor, why not a God?

It's not that we find it so hard to understand, it's just that we hate to see anyone go speeding down the road to hell without a clue as to what their in for. And yes there is a hell where God will torment you for all time if you are not right with Him. God is loving, and He is just. If you don't want to play by the rules, He made you and He will take you out.

There is no discussion, if you don't want to believe in God that's OK. But you have been told, so your on your own. Remember; Eternity is too long, to be wrong.

Wmb, you're arguing against the original poster's logic using the logic he was arguing against. I know you say there is a hell, but how do you KNOW? The bible is something you THINK is true. You might say that you know that God has spoken to you and is inside you, but you don't. You THINK you know. You can't say "Yes, there IS a Hell". Your argument is: "You say that God doesn't exist. Well he does because me and a really old story book say so, and you will go to Hell, which is definitely real because me and a really old story book say so." Circular logic.

You are able to believe anything you want. God has given us the free will to make choices. Just know that He loves you.

God is the ultimate 'argument from authority'.

People use ultimate authority to back up arguments they don't have enough sense to argue rationally. Its a cheat, for people who are either too ignorant or lazy to actually think things through.

There is lots of laziness and ignorance in the world, sorry, but get used to it.

No, I don't find it hard.

No, God does not opine. He is truth.

Yes, Truth may be irrelevant to you now. You may not need religion or God now. People have hierarchy of needs (Maslow). You probably have not reached the peak of Maslow's hierarchy of needs yet.
