Dogs hearing is very keen. High pitched noises hurt a dogs ears. My dogs howl when the fire engines go down my street with thier sirens on.

My dog howled when I played the saxaphone when I was little and howls at the sirens too. It may be the pitch of the sound.

Lol. My Siberian Husky howls when I play Leanne Rimes. We could start a choir; mine is a mezzo-soprano.

I would only worry if your dog is trying to leave the room and whimpers because he can't get out; otherwise, it must be his artistic accompaniment.

well some animals like on t.v feel the need to join in i had one pet and i thought it was bad and she didnt like my music but when we took her to the vet the vet could find no distress when i played but that the dog was simply joining in. but since your worried this may be the case that your dog doesnt like the sound. it sounds dumb but you can put a little hat on them and it will help block out the sound if this is something you just wont do just play in a different room or give it treats while your playing so it begins to like the sound

Its basically(without getting too technical) the fundamentals of the frequencies that are played on the harmonica. We(humans) hear certain notes, but dogs, because of their superior hearing, hear all sorts of harmonics and squeals, some of which are actually quite painful to listen to,hence the whimpering.Nothing to worry about, just think yourself lucky that your hearing isn't as sensitive.

a dog's hearing is 200 times stronger than ours-it may be hurting his ears or he just wants to sing along.

Could he be trying to tell you something - that he doesn't LIKE THE SOUND? If he only howls/whimpers when you play your moothie, I think that should be a clue!
