Advantage works GREAT and it is over the counter and can be bought online or at retailers. You do not need to buy it at a VET.

I have mixed feelings as should most pet owners when the DR and the PHARMACY are one and the same. How would you feel if your Human DR sold his own medications right at the clinic and you could not get it anywhere else. He wrote a prescription and told you, you must buy the medication from our front desk only..... Wouldn't you start to wonder....I know I would.

Thank you for this!

I too try to spread the word about this hideous product. I'm a vet nurse, and have seen plenty of cats die and/or go into seizures due to this stuff.

I've written to Bob Martin - surprise surprise, you can't get them to admit any liability. They're not stupid though, I thiknk they know the problems their product causes - I suppose they just don't really care. I spoke to BBC Watchdog earlier this year, and they said they were investigating Bob Martin although I haven't heard anything since. God I hope they do a report on them!!

NB Most of the people on this site are from USA where Bob Martin isn't sold - but they have Hartz, which seems to be the US version of BM

What surprises me is how trusting people are. Even people who are wary of conventional medicine and prefer natural and alternative treatments for themselves will expose their pets to all kinds of chemicals which can never be GOOD for them, but can kill fleas and mites, so it is supposed to be o.k.

A good friend of mine bought flea drops for her cat in a drugstore, he had a fit similar to those described in your links.

Most pet owners have to deal with parasites; mange mites and fleas are probably the worst. The miracle drops are SO tempting; so easy.
I use Revolution on my cats. My vet recommended it and I needed his total pledge that it was safe before I used it.
I will not use it every month; I think three times a year, starting in May or June, once again in August, and a final dose in November, works well enough. Even then, I worry, but it has been o.k.

The skin is an organ; one that absorbs carcinogens and harmful chemicals as easily, if not more easily, as inhaling or swallowing them. You are putting insecticides directly into your cats' bloodstream. Of course, there will be adverse effects!
Cats with weakened immune systems or who are sensitive will not be able to cope with the toxins.

I know it is important to control fleas, but kittens should never be treated chemically. A thorough grooming with a flea comb and good hygiene is enough. Even a bath is better for a kitten than chemicals.

I think it is great you have raised this. People should be more aware, and use chemical treatments with the utmost of care.
For those cat and dog lovers out there who want to do help their pets naturally, please take a look at "The Nature Of Animal Healing" by Martin Goldstein D.V.M. available in paperback by Ballantine Books.
Lots of chemical free advice there, and a very informative, perhaps even contraversial, read.
