these are great ideas. i like the second one best out of them. another suggestion to do is
1use sissors to pre cut constuction paper into doghnut shapes. (big enough for a small picture.)
2have the children decorate the frame with sparkles, paint, whatever they'd like.
3 take a picture of each of the children and put it into the frame
4 tie a ribbon on top of the frame so it can be hung
5 your frame would be done!

I am a mom of 5 children all young adults now. I have an ornament for all 5 that they made me in school. The teacher took a lid from Baby food Jars and pasted a picture of the child in the center. They then took Tinsel, glitter, yarn and small cut outs for around the edges and on the other side. I have cherished these small ornaments for years. As I said, my children are young adults in their 20s..I still get a little teary eyed when I take these out and put them on the tree...You could also put magnets on the back and use them for refridgerater magnets. This is just an idea...Good luck and these kids are lucky to have you....

How about getting a few different kinds of pasta noodles, dried from the package of course, and gluing them to coloured contruction paper to perhaps make a card, or picture. The different shapes and non toxic paint and some glitter to decorate will give imagination to children from all cultures, add your poem idea, so that the children can make their creation really be their own.

Good ideas!
Others:
Make multiple hand prints (either paint or trace)...cut out and arrange into a wreath. You can do one for each child w/ only his hands.
Popcicle Sticks glued into a star/snowflack shape. Add lots of glue and glitter for a great decoration. If you have access to a camera add the child's picture to this one!
There are millions of ideas on line!
Have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

does not sound like you need any help at all, you are doing a wonderful job. the only other thing you could add would be to get hold of some pop-sickle sticks, and have the children make Christmas Tree ornaments with them, like Christmas tree shapes, and anything else they can imagine, they could also be colored with magic markers, and also have glitter applied to them.

Go to your local $ store. Most of them have craft sections with the little foam shapes, glitter, etc that would make cute gifts. They also have little wooden plaques that can be decorated.

Those both sound very good. One of the projects our playgroup will be doing in December is winter picture frames. You get a magnet picture frame, then the kids decorate it with foam sticker snowflakes.

These are both great ideas. I would look at www.orientaltrading.com, they are a resource many teachers use and have easy assemble items. By looking you may be inspired to try something else.
