I know RGB and component are superior to composite but there are people that still prefer composite cables...

They are cheap.
That is the ONLY good thing about composite cables. In all other respects, composite cables are grossly inferior to any other type of video connection.

they are cheaper and simpler to use and are widely available to buy. In addition they work with almost any video & audio equipment made in the last 30 years. Quality is not as good but I guess some people don't need the extra quality of the more expensive component cables.

It's because they are so similar in make up and aesthetics to liquorice allsorts that the confusion arises.
