I was doing a paper, then I went to save it and microsoft word closed. Then I opened microsoft word again, and it recovered it.
But when I tried to save it again, it closed again. So when I tried to open word again, it didn't recover my paper.

Now when I try to open something on word, it closes.

Any help??

Get out your Windows CD.
Open a new Word document.
click Help
click Detect and Repair
You will probably be asked at some point to insert the Word CD.

I've had to do this a couple of times. Works great and only takes a minute or two.

Next time you work in Word, give the file a name immediately.
Remember Control S. Every so often, click Control S to save what you have done and to continue working.

Another thing you might want to do is create automatic backups.
In Word, click Tools, Options, Save tab.
click in the box preceding "always create backup copy."
This way, every Word document will have a backup. If you lose the original, you can open the backup and save it back to the original name. You will lose anything you did not save, but at least you should have most of it.

Backups go to the top of the file list when you "refresh" and are easily deleted - but they can come in handy and save you a lot of aggravation at times.

Go to Microsoft updates and make sure there arent any updates that need downloading. Also, check the SP1 and 2 have been downloaded. If it is Vista, you need to check as per above.

If you type up something in future, save it to a external disc so that it can be retrieved next time. Also, save your work after every paragraph, so that if it happens again, you will have to only replace a small amount.

Good luck
