Because no one is naturally moral on their own. The natural inclination of every person is to be selfish and immoral. The purpose of the Bible is not to make us moral but to lead us to God. His Holy Spirit, dwelling in us, is what helps us to be moral. The Holy Spirit performs as the conscience of even the immoral whom do not know or believe in God -- such as yourself. The Holy Spirit tries to draw all mankind to God.

What? You think as soon as we accept Jesus he just sends us all we need to know about how to live a Christian life by ESP or something? We are not the ones who are perfect he is. Without that "book" as you call it, we would just be fishing. It is our guidance, comfort and it gives us strength. It's our how-to, if you will.

Ha!
Us moral?
Only some of us think we are perfect, and they are vain, judgmental people.
I am a Christian and I am not perfect at all.
That is why I need the bible.
Good question.

The Bible is not a book that tells us what to do. It is a book that reveals who God is. What does God expect of us? To do justice, to love mercy and to walk humbly with our God. That's it.

well, i for one, don't consider myself such a 'moral individual'...but all i need to tell me how to act is Christ's 2 commandments, and i don't need to look them up-the Bible isn't a 'rule book'

A lot of them say they'd be out murdering raping and pillaging if it wasn't for their belief in the Bible...it's a worry isn't it considering that most of the population already in prisons do believe in the Bible anyway.

Simple. Because God breathed his word into man to write that "book", also known as the Bible. Therefore since it is God's word, and he is obviously God and I'm not... I need it to guide me.

Christians are programmed to be sinners and so it is easy for them to sin. By reading the bible they can exercise better self control over their penchant for sinning.
