They learn not to trust just anyone, and that respect is to be earned, not granted without question.

Between the ages of six and nine, I was molested by a man at my church. There are MANY things I learned:
1. Don't trust everyone.
2. I learned how to consider others. I COULD have told people, and put an end to it. But it probably would caused my dad to die sooner than he did, and even though my family denies it, they would have blamed me. So I had to make a choice: Tell someone and put an end to it, ultimately causing myself more guilt for leading my dad to become even sicker than he already was, or keep silent.
3. If the pervert hadn't been so busy with me, he probably would have been doing the same to other girls. I'm strong, I can handle that kind of stuff better than other people. My entire family has backs made of steel, from both sides (mom and dad). I am my parents' daughter in that regard.
4. I learned to forgive. The man who did this to me is now dead...for many years I HATED him for what he did. When he died, I thought to myself, "Good! I hope he rots in hell, the b******!" Now...I feel sorry for him. He was obviously sick. What he did to me was terrible, yes...but I forgive him nonetheless.
There are many other things I learned, but they're even more personal than this.
I can't answer for every child that's been molested...only one.

A child learns to hate and fear from an experience like that. We do learn from every experience but not everything we learn is good.

That's the sort of lesson a child should never have to learn, of course. No one has the right to do that.

I learned that sex can be misused, that the weak and helpless need to be protected, and that I could survive. Does that mean I'm glad it happened? No.

... if not the child, maybe his parents should learn something.
