If all the worlds MAJOR Religions preach love and peace why is there so much death and war over Religion?

I do not ask this to be sarcastic or slamming Religion and faith. It is a big question I honestly want to know. If all the main worlds faith believe in treating others well then why do we try so hard at killing each other ? it seems to me those that kill do not follow their faith at all.

What do you feel drives humanity to do such horrible things to one another, the planet and animals? Honestly are we not one of the cruelest races to have inhabited this planet to date? We take more than we need and are gluttons (AGAIN NOT EVERYONE IM JUST SUMMING UP) We can blow our own planet up or at leat Iradiate it so nothing but roaches can live.

WHY? Imagine if all the hatred and war was used for gainful purposes what we may have acheived! I do not blame Religion I blame people. I just do not understand how they can call themselves religious yet do these atrocities!!

(NOTE I NEVER THUMB DOWN UNLESS YOUR RUDE) SO WE KNOW WHO THUMBED YOU DOWN. they could at least have the courage to say why they disagree and thumb you down, that just shows they do not respect your answer and think they are better than you. That person certainly will not get a vote down from me, but not a vote up either, YOU get one NOW though!! I only think you should thumb someone down if you are prepared to state WHY!!

UMM what about the CRUSADES!!!!! That was cause by Christians!!!! OR the invasion of SPAIN? that was the Moors!! Not Atheists! That is ludicrous!!

Because men use their interpretation of religion as an excuse for oppression, violence, terrorism, torture, murder and war..

MOST of the major religions of the world preach peace and love ... there is one that does not ... not to name names, but its practitioners go about flying hijacked planes into buildings, blowing up Israeli children, etc., etc.

That is why there is death and war over religion. Look at the recent and current religious conflicts around globe...
Chechnya...
Bosnia...
Kosovo...
Israel...
the Middle East in general...
Africa...
even the United States, Britain and Spain (the terrorists that attacked these nations did so for religious reasons).

Jehovah's witnesses may be aggravating...evangelists might get on your nerves...you might even think that religionists are generally laughable, absurd, and foolish...but, petty annoyances aside, there's only one religion that actively preaches (and practices) violence.

Check out www.memri.org. See the things that are reported there...the calls for the destruction of infidel states...the end of Israel...the downfall of the US and other western states...the murder of infidels...etc.,etc.,etc....
then read the Koran and hadiths...you'll find the source for such thinking.

They say one thing and do another.
They preach peace yet bless young men to go off to war.

World War Two was a good example of the clergy of the R.C. church blessing young men from both Germany and England/U.S.A. and allied couintries to go and kill each other.

they could just have easily said...All R/C's lay down your arms and do nothing. THE POLITICAL LEADERS COULD HAVE DONE NOTHING.
There would not have been a war..
