File permission error when trying to save a ms-word doc to my hard drive?
Why would I get a file permission error when trying to save a ms-word doc to my hard drive?
THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN EVERY TIME I save, but it has happened with more than one document. I do not get anything like this when I'm backing up to an external hard drive using maxtor one touch. Only when I'm saving an individual document that has already been saved earlier, before additional changes.

You are using a read only file. You just need to rename it to something else, and it should work. Rename, save, then go into WIndows Explorer, find the original file, right click. Check attributes and make sure it's not checked as read only. Good luck

- The Document could be a read only file.
- It may have protection on it.
- Did you download it from an email?
- Did you recieve it from somone?

In other words if you got it from someone ask them to remove the protection and give you another copy.

Hope this helped.

First, get out your Office CD.
Open a Word document
click Help
click Detect and Repair
You will probably be asked to insert the Office CD at some point.

This may do it.

It *may* be an obscure problem that pops up if you don't clear out your temp files...

The files are randomly named and if not cleared out it is possible that the temp file created has the same file name as one previously used and not deleted. The file is locked and therefore causes this issue. Run the disk clean up util and see if this clears up the issue.
