I think my pipe that supplies water to my backyard faucet was capped by the previous owners. How hard is it to "uncap" the pipe to gain usage of it again or is this not possible?

From what I can see it looks like a copper pipe. This is in a warm climate and a slab foundation so there is no cut off in a crawel space or anything like that

The fact that it is in your backyard suggests that it is indeed "live"
Try to find the shut-off valve that controls it, turn it off, and using a stillson wrench, unscrew the cap. Take the cap to the store and obtain a suitable fitting with the same size, generally 1/2 " 5/8" or 3/4"
Smear the threads with thread seal or thread tape, you can buy a small roll for50 cents

What kind of pipe is it? Iron or PVC? If it is iron you should be able to unscrew the cap, if it is PVC it will have to be cut off. Either way make sure the water is off before you do it.
