I'm afraid of a lot of things. In fact, I'm a regular coward. Jihad, for example. Or the breakdown of the wall of separation between church and state. Or getting a president next who is even worse than the one we have now. Running out of money frightens me. My health going down hill even faster than it has been. Getting a phone call to tell me that someone I love has died.
Actually, I don't think any of those have anything to do with my being an atheist, but I thought I'd answer anyway.

Oddly enough -- nothing.
I've just finished reading an article on the Yellowstone Caldera -- the biggest freakin' volcano in the history of the planet, still active, capable of killing us all and currently overdue for its next Big Burp.
Of course there's no point in being afraid of something which cannot be prevented.
I figure if I'm not afraid of this, then I'm not afraid of anything.

i will comprehend your emotions and that i think of reckoning on the area makes a distinction on how open you may choose for to be. Christians are by utilising no potential consistently advantageous and tolerant human beings, in fact I rather have seen they are likely to be no longer. My heart is going out to you for that situation, its never exciting to be in a situation the place human beings could be threatening you merely for being who you're. i do no longer think of i might desire to stay in such an illiberal place yet peole are not consistently fortunate sufficient to have a decision. Did you spot the story with regard to the extra youthful intense college woman who became an atheist in Oklahoma? They kicked her off the basketball group and she or he finally had to bypass away the school because of the fact no longer merely the youngsters yet instructors too gave her any such undesirable time. besides, i do no longer hide that i'm atheist yet i do no longer stay in a conservatively Christian area. All my kin comprehend and individuals who're close to to me. when I meet human beings i do no longer introduce myself as an atheist or something nor do I elevate the subject count number of religion till that's desirable to the communique. while it does arise i'm elementary. I grew up in New England and became Christian till college and it wasn't too demanding on me. My husband became a professor in Utah for 3 years however and that they have got a lot of conservative Mormons there. some cases I had human beings choose for to no longer be friendly with me yet i did no longer care. I stay in Austria now. there are various Catholics yet human beings are not on your face approximately faith. Many are extra culturally non secular than something.

Bigotry. Nonsense claiming the human race. Superstition taking precedence over morality and science.

In my opinion...what the Atheists are afraid of is this: When you look at war, and people killing people they've never met...the "root" cause of those people's "willingness" to kill and/or die for an "abstractional idea," is...
Religious "faith..."
What "religious" folks are afraid of is...punishment for their own self-preceived "bad" behavior...AND...that their "faith and beliefs" are not "complete..." There's a lot of "mystery" and "unknowns" in "faith" that inspire some very important and interesting questions about morality, ethics, and biological intrinsic "traits, " that seem to preclude our own "murderous" abilities...every life form on the planet has to eat...and what most things eat are...things we kill...even carrots (and other vegies) kill the plant when you pull it up to eat...with the exception of some fruits...you have to kill something to exist...and we know a diet consisting only of apples, oranges, tomatoes, and other things that don't involve killing the source...is unhealthy...and doesn't provide all the nutrition we need...
Both religious folks and Atheist folks on here are WAY too serious...
Philosophy of Religion (or non-religion is a fun "debate," but both sides take it too far, in my opinion.)
I don't consider myself either one...I like the word "Agnostic," because it speaks the "real" truth, which is...
None of us "really" knows the details of what's going on behind the veil of the parts of "reality" we cannot yet perceive...
There may be some "supernatural" beings outside of known biology...but short of doing "flatliner" experiments, which goes against all medical and scientific ethics (they're trying to "save" biological life, not risk losing it for the sake of higher knowledge) we will never know until some emergent but as yet unknown technology enables us to explore that "realm" with responsible information gathering...
Until then...the "honest" truth is...
None of us knows what the Hell is going on...it's all educated and non-educated guesses, suppositions, declarations, conjecture, and sheer imaginative "beliefs..."
I believe that many people are "convinced" of their faith...I have no problem with that...if I thought being religious was insane...I'd lose all my family and friends...but...
Being convinced is NOT the same thing as "everybody knowing for sure..."
(FYI...even hard-core vegetarian/environmentalist, earthy, benevolent, and life-loving non-smokers drive SUV's, and live in structures made primarily from the killing of trees...so...let's get real, people...The "hyposcrisy" of everyone's existence seems...
...natural...)

Are you sure atheists are AFRAID?? IF I were an Atheist (which I am not) I would be more PISSED OFF than afraid!!
If I was as good of a person as I could be and paid my taxes and loved my family and then someone told me I would die and burn in a hellfire full of torture and lament THAT WOULD HURT MY DAMN FEELINGS!! And you could just go Piss Up a Rope. I am a Christian and Jesus knows my name and He knows where to find me day or night.
