After the 350z takes off with auto trans, and you used the manual shift control throught the gears to red line, will it run as fast as the manual tranmission taken to red line through the gears? What is the advanatage of if any, would a manual trans have over the auto with shift control? Thanks

Trust me automatic transmission weighs more than a 6 speed Automatic has its own mind and won't allow downshifting to set the chassis behind into the turn. The torque converter 20% POWER LOSS will be felt every day. Unless you get caught in bumper to bumper traffic every morning and night Manual trans in a sports car is the only way to go. Nigel Shift Right (fictious person)can shift a manual as well as an automatic, But electronic controls wont allow an automatic to down shift from 4th to second gear. 2007 and 2008 350z manual trans. have HR (high reving) engine not offered with the auto trans. The difference is 305 for 2007 and 307HP for 2008HP auto trans gets the 3.5 liter with out dual camshaft timing sprockets and 285 hp. Plenty of reasons to SHIFT FOR YOURSELF

Typically, automatic transmissions with a manual gear selection do not perform shifts as quickly as regular manuals. Bear in mind, I'm talking about traditional automatics here, which operate differently from clutchless manuals.

Also, automatics suffer more parasitic loss than manuals due to the torque converter, as well as power lost in the form of heat (this is why automatic transmissions require coolers for the fluid). This causes less power to be transmitted to the wheels. A penalty is also incurred in the form of weight, as auto trannys weigh significantly more than their manual counterparts.

In a very few instances, an auto version of a car can be quicker than the manual. This is usually due to some peculiarity in launching the manual car, whereas automatics provide more consistent, easier-to-perform launches. This is why automatics are popular with many drag racers, especially in bracket racing, where consistency is more important than outright speed.

Those points aside, a car with a manual transmission will usually outperform the same car with an automatic.

Advantages would be the fun you have while driving a stick. And not just looking at the road in an automatic. I'm sure the automatic isn't as limited as you think, it is probably just as fast for as hard as you could drive it.
