If you can't hit what you're aiming at with the Glock, then choose the Model 10. If you can buy your own ammunition certainly buy +P. However, be aware that 9mm +P and +P+ 9mm ammunition is more powerful than +P .38 Spec., and if you're like most security guards your back-up will be a long time coming. You'll be better served to practice with the Glock 17 until you are proficient with it. I love my wheel guns, but in a gunfight you'll want that extra 12 rounds in the magazine.

The carry weapon you choose should be the one you are comfortable with and can shoot the most accurately..That is the primary reason as a Security Guard, as you might be called on to use your sidearm.
As a retired LEO/Detective, with 26 years on the job, I carried a Smith & Wesson Model 10 HB for years on patrol, until my department went to Sig Sauer P-226 9mm's. The Smith was a great handgun and I staked my life on it more times than I care to think about, and I'm still here..
As a Gun Shop Owner and Combat Pistol Instructor now to be honest I would still pick a S&W 10 over a Glock. The departments in the U.S. that are supposedly upgrading to "Glocks" are doing so because of budget constraints and the Glock being available at a sizeable departmental discount for local governments. If you ask the rank and file Professional Police Officers, Glock would not even be in the running..They are boxy, and the two stage trigger mechanism is very hard to master, and as a result is hard to shoot in high stress situations. There are many people that swear by the Glock but few are in Securitry or Law Enforcement, nor have most of those that sing praises for the Glock ever been in a life or death confrontation...nor does their "work" involve any daily risk. If you are comforatable with the Smith 10 than in truth thats what I would recommend. It's sad your company isn't diversified enough to offer you a better second choice but the Glock..Good luck with which ever one you choose..After all you are protecting your own "Bacon" ....

I carry a 38 snubby only because it must be concealed where
I live and it's only for personal self defense. My instructor at the concealed weapons class advised that you should carry a gun like a Glock or Beretta with as large a magazine capacity as possible. Chances are excellent that when you pull the trigger the Glock will fire. His reason was if your ever in that self defense situation, your probably going to be so nervous you'll miss your first 10 shots. Good luck.

JD, as usual, is full of it. Apparently he has not seen the numerous contractors going to Iraq carrying Glock pistols. Apparently with his constantly changing list of credentials, he is qualified to answer about the GLock's trigger and its use in combat.
I would choose the Glock. With practice you will become proficient and in time begin to understand what makes it such a great pistol. The number of rounds you have is important, especially in law enforcement as bad guys often come in groups and you want enough ammo to end the fight with extra, not be frantically out of rounds after 18 shots.
Get the Glock. Learn to shoot, and practice.

Go with the Glock. The S&W is a good pistol but the Glock is the better choice for your purpose.

Even though I do not like Glocks I would go with that. I do have to agree with JD. Choose a firearm that is comfortable for you. In order to do that go to a shop and hold as many as you can. There are a lot of great firearms and you would be better with one that fits your hand and feels good when carrying as you will be for your shifts.

Get the Model 10 no ifs, ands or buts.* See if they will let you get it in 357 Magnum because you can also shoot 38 caliber ammo in it.* You get two guns for the price of one.* The 357 Magnum is a proven man stopper.* If not get the 38 caliber. You might only be able to carry one, but if you get it in 357 Magnum, you will actually have the use of two handguns.*
