any ways I meet up with an old friend from highschool and I remind him of the good old days. We use to both do kick boxing and sparred all the time. Well we decided to fight for old times sake, only it wont be restricted to scoring points. Im wondering how I should I fight him. He's 6,3 190 something lbs, and pretty muscular. His advantage is that he is bigger and stronger. Im 5,7 155 lbs and lean. My advantage is that ive been in more real fights and still can kick prettyhard. Im wondering how I should I fight him. I thought maybe rushing and throwing everything I got but if I messed up he would easily over power me. So then im thinking of using grappling but I would have to get in close enough without taking too many blows. Asking for advice from any one that does martial arts, boxing or any combat like sport.

How quick are you. If you have speed, more than him, just stick and move. If you can cut off his reach, by getting inside, than do it. He won't have full range of motion with punches, if your inside. He will though, have the ability to clinch. Guys who are smaller than their opponents, usually use speed to their advantage. Going to the ground with a bigger stronger guy could be a risk. Unless you can have body control. My advice, get inside throw some good body shots. Watch out for counter shots, and put in your own counter shots.

Foot work and movement will help you some but you also have to be able to back it up and throw fast, quick combinations when you get in and then get out using angles. Also the use of angles when you move in sometimes will help you, especially as he tires. Most bigger people tire quicker than smaller ones since their greater strength and bulk taxes their cadiovascular system more to move around than yours does so you should try to dictate a fast pace. I would also ask you though if this is not serious and just for fun then why not just go and spire and you both will remain friends-especially if there is no true "winner".

My best advice, postpone 1 month, go into BJJ or submission grappling classes 3-5 times per week. Learn one very basic takedown-single leg or clinch with trip, and two ground submissions.

You will beat any normal guy off the street just with that.
