Can abstinence for a year and a half make you irritable and depressed?!?!?

That depends. It depends a lot on whether you abstained from masturbation as well, or just sex with another person. If you (or whoever) still masturbated during the period of abstinence, there's no medical reason why you should feel depressed, unless you denied yourself ANY physical contact with another human, in which case, yeah, you'll mess yourself up. Humans need physical contact with one another.
Masturbation and sex both release endorphins, which you need to feel happy, but as long as you're reasonable about it, abstinence shouldn't make you depressed, and if you are, it may be signs of a deeper problem.

it can make you cranky and irritable but not necessarily depressed. though doctors have stated that having sex while depressed and reduce depression because orgasm releases feel good endorphins in your body causing you to be happy. so if you are trying to remain abstinent, but you are becoming depressed, try masturbation! good luck!

Well for people who are unable to perform because of some disorder aren't depressed are they? People do it all the time and most of us have waited 16-18 years before doing that so I think one year would not kill you.

It depends what you make of it. If you use it as a chance to take a break from that part of life and figure out who you want, it may be a positive thing.
