Religions and cultures that deny women and gay people basic equality, or exploit and abuse them, are, as far as I am concerned, a bad thing. I don’t feel the slightest obligation to respect them.

According to me: Yes, as soon as a religion starts seeking after power it goes bad.

can you name one that does such a thing to women
and with gays what then of pedophiles, monogomy, zoophosexuals, and kleptomaniacs?
all these things are incorrect in the very nature, it is dare I say it, a flaw in the genetic code, one that with help a person can be taught to obstain from.

I am not a traditionalist spiritually. I believe that traditional religions are going to have to change. They need to open themselves up, to the best and newest in spiritual ideas from all sources, including individuals. They need to update, themselves, to fit in better, with the age we live in. Clearer language would be helpful. They should have the best in spiritual ideas and techniques, so that they can upgrade, the spiritual and moral level of this planet, so that we will do better, at addressing the serious problems we have here.

A knife can be used for many things. I can use it to make myself and my family a health nutritious dinner.... or I can use it to kill someone. Is it the fault of the knife's existence that the person is dead? Or is it the fault of the person wielding the knife that the other person is dead? Should we destroy all knives simply because some people may choose to use them for destruction rather than creation? Should we rid the world of everything that can be used for a negative purpose? Or should we place fault on the individuals who CHOOSE to do these things and use pre-existing tools to aid them in those endeavors?
Religion... any religion, is a tool and nothing more. It is the choice of the individual how that tool will be used.

Indeed, impure religions arrive defiled and get worse. But pure religion arrived undefiled and remained unspotted. So let's not throw out the baby with the poopy bath water. Let's not throw out the grace with the faulty law. If law is dung, then flush law, not religion. Legalism is what makes religion rotten. Letting law be dead testator of the NT is how religion becomes pure grace void of law and mercy void of sacrifice and true peace void of division is perfect love void of fear.
The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

Religion does just tons of good for those who believe in it..I think it does more good than otherwise
The interpretation of parts of the bible are misconstrued by many..and I think you can find opposing views on every subject in it...
If you're not busy tonight, lets go out and stone a few whores,,

I totally agree. This question is long overdue here.
Thanks for bringing it up.. too many of us tip-toe around these subjects, and it's time for us to just call a spade a spade.

We can say a religion is rotten, but that would be our OPINION. I wish people would have an easier time discerning OPINION from TRUTH.
However, I agree an exclusionary religion who hates gays, etc etc etc has some internal issues.

Christianity's doctrine and the gay life-style are mutually exclusive of each other. It's not going to change just because a bunch of humans think it should. Sorry.
