Because educated people generally know how to spell.
If your argument is full of spelling and grammatical mistakes, you're probably parroting someone else's views that you've heard and not gone out and done the research for yourself.

We also tend to take proper spelling and grammar more seriously because it's indicative of whether or not you've taken the time to think about what you're typing, and not just typing for the sake of typing.

Fine, you call me an Aetheist, and I'll call you:

Krisschans
Juuwish
Boodist
Cunfushunist
Henndue

Etc., etc.

Maybe you should learn to spell. The words you learn to spell don't matter. I'm sorry if you would prefer to look stupid because of your atrocious spelling, but I'd rather be able to UNDERSTAND what the hell you're talking about.

And it's NAZI.

I don't think they are touchy about how you spell their nonbelief; it is simply that frequently people post questions that attempt to discredit or find fault with atheists' viewpoints, meanwhile not bothering to do a spell check or have basic vocabulary skills when making their point. It is rather rediculous to say, "I know the right way, you are wrong, why do you not believe/behave right, etc.," while misspelling 3-4+ words in your paragraph. I think many of us would rather people studied harder in school before trying to make a point with illogical or unreadable questions.

Well mostly because there is a spell check built in. Secondly because proper spelling is an essential when communicating in written form.

You know....there is a spell check button right there, and if you would use Firefox it does it on the fly.

But if you WANT to look like a moron spelling "atheists" "aetheist's" go right ahead. Too bad you missed all your education.

too funny, erm yeah I probably am it's just a coincidence though - you can't generalise like that, do you want people to think that you are no better than a christian?!

pst! that's nazi but I'm sure you're just trying to wind me up :D

Edit - No. You didn't. Check in a dictionary. Something is not right just because you say it is, loony....

*NA*tional So*ZI*alist - the t is not included in the abbreviation, germans abbreviate things differently, trust me.

If you had anything intelligent to say, I'd easily overlook the spelling. Unfortunately, that's usually not the case.

Society in general equates spelling and grammar with education. It (either fairly or unfairly) is assumed that someone who doesn't spell well is undereducated. In your case you weren't able to write one correct sentence and that makes your point harder to understand.

We get so many questions telling Atheists how ignorant and stupid we are and they look like they were written by 2nd graders. Besides, there is a "Check Spelling" button sitting on the box they are typing in.

And like the words are like spelled "NAZI'S" and "Atheists"
