Oh, try them. Just as the name implies, they taste like ham. They are delicious. They are somewhat like chuck roast from a cow: a less choice cut that when cooked slow and good come out great to eat.

They are yummy!! She will more than likely cook them with peas or beans, like a ham hock stew. It is an awesome comfort food, great with homemade bread, cornbread or over rice. I am sure you will love it if she does a nice slow cook to make it all very fall-apart tender.
You are lucky!

Ham hocks, as other said, taste like ham. There's not much meat on them though, and a lot of fat and a very thick skin. I always put them in my navy bean soup to flavor it, so they're cooked for a long time. If you like ham, you'll like ham hocks.

She probably is cooking them in some beans. After the fat has been removed, the meat is rather salty. Be polite and eat some. I'm sure ther will be other dishes you can fill up on.

They taste just like ham. Just a little tougher so they are usually cooked in liquid. They are very tasty.
