Wine Spectator isn't the only organization that rates wines in this way, but Finance Guy's answer is good. 90 points is an excellent rating. If you see a 90 point wine for under $15, you are getting a good deal.

On Lisa's answer, below: Agreed, to a certain extent wine preference is a matter of personal taste. In fact, top quality wines often tasty funny until you develop a taste for them. However, the ratings do tend to be fairly consistent with the expert tasters, say, within about five points. One taster may rate a wine at 90 points, another may give it an 85. Naturally, your local liquor store will post the 90 rating to push the wine, so doing a little homework here can pay off.

Its a rating given by the magazine Wine Spectator. A score of 100 would be perfect, but a 90 or above is considered a top-notch wine. You can definitely find some 90+ wines for under $10, just takes a little looking around...

FinanceGuy and Zanti3 are both correct. HOwever, one thing to keep in mind is that a 90point wine doesn't necessarily mean it is any good...sorry. the point system, whoever's that you read is somebody's opinion. That particular person tasted it and assigned a number.
Take Beringer Nights Valley Cab Sauv from napa for example, that wine has scored 88 - 92 points since 1993. This is considered rather good wine based on the ratings. But I personally can't stand the wine. Never have and never will. I just don't like the taste. My friend at work absolutely loves it.

I really started to hit the wine when I started on "Seniors". At first, I thought it made me a lot smarter to have a few glasses. I even laughed at my own answers. then I had to drink because I was so depressed, that all our fun folks were leaving. then I had to drink cause I was plain mad...I haven't done anything that needs violating. But still I get them in the email box (here goes another one) and it really pis s e s me off!!! I try to explain but nobody listens and nobody cares. So now I drink because I just LIKE IT.!!! I have half a glass sitting here and intend to drink a couple more. Big problem tho: I'm having a hard time typing. So anyhow, let's start the New Years celebration tonite. R U with me??? SRBYN1 Just exactly does wine do for you that vitamins dont?

Passing through the checkout line at the grocery store, next to the candy, and the kid screams loud enough for it so that the whole store knows what a bad parent you are.
