How does it work and how do you make money with pledges like $0.10 Cents per car?

My church did a free car wash where we actually paid people to let us wash their cars. We gave every person who brought in there car one dollar. Its obviously not for us to make money. Its just a great way to show Gods love in a tangible way. We call it random acts of kindness.

They are fund raisers.
"Free" just means they hope to benefit from people's generosity in giving more than 10 cents.
Most reasonable people in the USA understand that car washes are anything from $6 to $20, depending upon the market in which you live.
A $5 dollar donation is a bargain for the washee, and a boon to the washer.
