A half a pound of bacon averages 8 to 12 slices. Each cooked slice weighing 0.3 oz. is about 46 calories. If it's eight such strips, that's 368 calories. If it's twelve, that's 552 calories. Those calories are two-thirds dietary fat--and that, rather than the calories, is what makes it unhealthy. If you ordinarily eat a fairly low-fat diet, it can even make you sick. Rather than chowing down on so much bacon, enjoy 3 or 4 strips used to flavor something else, whether it's an omelette, a salad, or a BLT.

How many oz in a lb? How many slices of bacon in a pound? According to the chief there are about 20 slices of bacon per pound. If they were sliced in a deli from a slab of bacon there would be 16 or less slices per pound.

1 slice of bacon = 1 oz. meat

If you're doing diabetic exchanges, count 1 slice as 1 meat + 1 fat serving.
