Hi,
Im a 17yr old female and apparently have a metabolism of 1980 calories per day. I'm an A-level student so don't really have much time for exercise, except for the occasional 30min dog walk once or twice a week, and an 8 hour shift in a cafe one day per week.
Does this mean if I eat less calories than this per day, I will generally lose weight, and how quickly will this happen?
Thanks a lot.

Choose more healthy food items to eat. more fruits and veggies. it would not be good to go below 1200 calories a day on a diet!!! eat 6 small meals a day and drink lots of water!!!! (a small meal can even be something like a baggie of grapes or an apple). been through weight watchers myself!!
Give it a try! good luck
also, park at the end of parking lots, take stairs instead of elevators, any little thing you can do for added movement is better than nothing!!!
Be well!
Dawn

If all you want to do is lose weight and you don't care about actually eating healthier, all you need to do is reduce the amount of calories and you will lose weight.

If you want to lose weight AND be healthier, then you'd want to make sure that plenty of the foods you're eating are lean proteins, fish, veggies, fruits--all healthy natural foods.

Implementing cardiovascular workouts and strength training will give you a much better body than dieting alone. Even if your workouts are quick 5-minute ones, it will help. A little is better than none.

Losing weight can happen very quickly or very slowly depending on your particular metabolism. A safe and healthy amount to lose is 1 or 2 pounds per week. It seems slow but have patience and you will get there!

I don't know why you are concerned about your weight. It sounds pretty normal. Keep in mind, when you cut your calories in half, you are also cutting your nutrition in half. Make sense? You will need your daily dose of protein and vitamins. I would recommend you try a One-A-Day vitamin to ensure you get your proper amount of vitamins. Try eating fish or chicken, along with fruits and veggies for the protein and starches you will need. Of course the best thing to do is eat in moderation and settle into a workout routine. If you are consuming 2000 calories a day and couple that with joining a gym for regular workouts, that alone will probably help you lose weight without having to cut your intake in half. Good Luck!

A pound of fatty tissue is equivalent to about 3500 calories. If your metabolism is about 2000 calories per day, and you consume less than that amount, you will lose weight to the tune of about 1 pound per 3500 calories. For example, if you could manage on 1500 calories per day you would lose about a pound per week.

I am not a doctor. Consult your physician before trying anything drastic.

I am trying to lose weight also .I am a A level engineering student ,and have gained weight since I began college.I have began to make time to work out.If you figure out a way to squeeze in 20 minutes of cardio 3 times a week you will increase your metabolism. Then you will burn more calories.Muscle mass also burns more calories than fat.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.

Get started today!

go for 1500 calories and try to ensure it the healthier calories!!! alcohol is full of empty calories ie has no nutritional value. so try to be carefull there. one pint of beer is equiv. to 200 calories and a bottle of wine is about 500 -600. so go easy. be aware you will lose weight with a cut back of calories but excersize tones (mind you you are 17 so that wont be relavant for another 10 years!!) good luck but remember being like a stick is not attractive curves are good as long as they dont wobble!!! x

Yeah, basically if you burn more calories than you consume you'll lose weight. Make sure you have no booze splurges with the girls...oh ok, maybe one or two.
