When I turn on the TV the center is blacked out with only the right and left edges showing. When I switch channels the picture restores for a second and then the center blacks out again. Why is this, how do I fix it?

See if you're in "text mode". Use the remote, go through the on-screen menus until you find something about "text mode", or equivilent. Different brands may call it a different name. It probably got switched to "text mode" inadvertantly by someone that didn't know what they were doing, or accidentially.

It sounds like your TV is on the way out the door. You are probably better off just purchasing another one. I just picked up a nice Samsung set from digitaldealz.net.

It is the LN-T4665F, this TV is so nice. It is set in the grand piano black, and believe it or not, it even looks good off. It's awesome.

I got mine from digitaldealz for about $2000 w/ free shipping, which is an awesome deal considering I was going to buy from Sears for $2700 w/o delivery and have to pay tax. With digitaldealz.net, shipping was free, and no tax as I don't live where they are located. Awesome deal.

Here is a link to the TV I bought:

LOOK on your remote control for a button labled

Press it again and again until the word OFF appears...

You presently have your Closed Captioning activated and it's in TEXT mode...

That's what creates that black box.....
