And why do people get powerful breeds (mastiffs, rotties, pits) if they don't have the adequate home/lifestyle/leadership? And why don't people spay and neuter their dogs? If they aren't show dogs you have NO reason not to! Don't breed your dog because it's "cute"! You have NO right to when hundreds of dogs die in shelters every day! Why as humans have we let dogs down so much? Look at the shelters if you don't believe me...

because most people are selfish

why do people who have absolutely no business having a kid spread their legs?

again - same thing - selfishness...

and ignorance too I suppose.. most people think "my pups are cute they will find homes" and sure MAYBE the do.. but the person doesnt realize that for every home their pups take it means one other pup doesnt find a home

its worse with cats/kittens

People have no idea that when they buy a dog that it's a long term investment. The moment they have to shell out a buck for their dog they suddenly can't afford it, yet they still apparently have internet, and probably cable, and a cell phone too.
My poor new puppy is having surgery on Tuesday. The cost is $4000 and we already spent $1300 on diagnostic testing. I don't have an extra $5000 laying around but I did apply for care credit. My husband and I are going through our house to see what we can sell to pay off that card. I'm even going to trade in my expensive volvo tomorrow for a cheaper car. I bought this pup and she is a member of my family no matter what and we will do whatever it takes to make her well. I have only had her for 2 months, but I love her.
The prognosis for surgery is also really good so we're hoping we get years and years of a healthy dog by making sacrifices for her.
As for spaying, I'm so bummed she's not spayed yet and her neurologist says it cant be done until she is better which will be in at least 2 months, I'm sure she will come in heat in that time as she will be over 8 months old. Not to worry though, I would never let a male dog around her as I watch her 24/7 and she will be crated during her recovery, just a bummer for her though.

I know, believe me, I have rescued more dogs in the past years that were just dumped by people because they were inconvenient and they couldn't be bothered.
People get dogs on impulse without having any idea as to how long they live and what they need, it is pathetic.
Then there is byb group who thinks they will make a fast buck on breeding and selling some puppies - that should be outlawed permanently, but try to tell these people what they are doing and they get very hostile.

As long as people buy from byb and puppy mills, the sick, sad, dogs bring in money - and often end up in kill shelters when they prove to be not the adorable little sweeties advertised.

Responsible people adopt from shelters or rescues, they don't enrich heartless puppy millers for breeding more and more inferior examples of breeds in their hell holes.

Because they don't think of dogs the way we do. Might aswell get them a hamster - they probably think they're the same thing.

To be frank they don't even care about dogs in shelters so saying that won't work. The only arguement I've actualy *seen* work is getting a small/medium sized bltch spayed because if a large dog impregnates her she will die.

I wish put as much thought into getting a dog as they do into getting a new house or car.

These people will never own a dog from a responsible breeder or a well run rescue group. Homes are screened, people are interviewed, home visits are done, before a dog is sold or adopted.
However, as long as we have puppies sold in pet stores and backyard breeders and shelters that don't screen potential homes, we will have these problems.

it saddens me to! i dont understand it either. people buy these breeds i think just to look good,or to be able to say they have one? then they just shove them out the back garden and forget about them,it sickens me to the stomache, my pets are a part of my family, and get treated like a family member.these people need to be tagged as bad pet owners and shouldnt be allowed to get other pets, but that will never happen. i often report pet owners to the council if i see or hear any thing that upsets me, i even stop people walking their dogs on a real hot day and explain to them that the groung is too hot for their dogs paws to be on, dogs dont wear shoes like us! people need more training to be pet owners.

It is called freedom. The freedom to be good or bad in anything we do. It is a God ordained right for us to have dominion over animals. There will be consequences for every ones actions be it after death or during life by laws and sentences for breaking them. Do you believe in abusing an animal to make it do what you want? (yelling, cursing, screaming etc) I doubt it. Then why oh why, do you people believe it will work when you do it to humans?

I don't get it

You guys light me up all of the time, just like you do everyone else, but there are better ways to get the message across.

I would like to address the first question only.....Why do people who have absolutely no business owning a dog get one? The same reason that they have children, because they can. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
