Are you graduating from high school? If so, you could go nearly anywhere, as nursing schools done give a bean about high school grades. What they care about is the grades you receive in prerequisite classes. You can take these prerequisite classes at any community college. Some but not all schools care about your previous experience in health care. You could get experience by working as a CNA, EMT, volunteering, or working in patient registration.

I'm not sure what part of Texas you live in. Texas is a big state, as you know! Here is a list of all the nursing schools in Texas: http://www.allnursingschools.com/find/results.php?program=&st=TX&submit=Find+a+School

In Texas currently, the RN programs are highly competitive. Whether trying for an associates or a bachelors program an RN program would generally expect grades around the 3.5 level, and even at the least competitive schools a 3.25.

If your college boards are not high enough to be accepted at most schools, then your odds of success in an RN program are questionable. But it can be done, if you want to study and put in the effort. If you can get into the school and show a good success on the prerequisites, then the schools will not look at your high school grades.

Otherwise, consider trying an LPN/LVN program. Once you have finished this program and have worked as an LVN for a while, you can use the hospital's tuition reimbursement program to go back to an RN program. There are LVN to RN programs available.

Good Luck!

LPN - licensed practical nurse, also known as LVN - licensed vocational nurse.

This is offered at tech / trade schools. There are no general education requirements and you don't have to be an outstanding student. It gives you the opportunity to prove yourself and get good grades and later you can get your RN degree from a community college in as little as a year.

RN programs are not offered by tech schools very often, it is usually in a community college or 4 year university. You can earn either a 2 year Associates degree or a 4 year Bachelor of Science in Nursing. It is competative to get into all programs, and you need to have good grades. You can start taking general education courses (non-nursing) for your degree early on, years in advance even, and they will use those grades when looking at your GPA for admission, high school won't matter as much if you can get good grades with a few college courses.

It really depends. Unfortunately most schools have a backlog of students trying to get in their program and if you don't have good grade (3.5 or above) you will have a hard time getting in.

However if you don't mind living out in the middle of nowhere there are smaller schools, like Midwestern State University in Wichita falls Texas, that have a smaller pool of student fighting for slots and they take student with lower grade and their scholarship programs are easier to get money for. So check out some of the school that are away from the major metropolitan areas.

you are not being selfish! there are all kinds of online homeschools but you might want to look them up because some of them may cost nothing if live in the state. But a good online school that costs nothing is K12 I went there it was really nice. they send you everything books, labs, computer, for nothing. But if you live in Arizona I would say go with primavera it's so flexible and if you don't have enough money to get a computer they'll send you one. I'm loving it right now but if you don't live in Arizona then you'll have to pay a fee which i dont know how much that is sorry. I've heard of IQ academy those are the only ones I heard of but like I said just look up homeschooling online for high school in your area. I believe if you want to get your GED you have to 16 good luck! and im sorry
