Telling the truth is always the better way out. It may take time for someone to get over it, but it would be a lot less than if they heard it from someone other than you. If that was the case the damage could never be undone.

For what situation? Lying isn't always easiest nor is telling the truth. I think you're going to need to be a little more specific.

Telling the truth is always best the only trouble i fore see with it is if for example you lived in nazi germany and were hiding jews and said yes i am hiding them.

telling the truth is always the easier and better idea.....with lies you always have to make up a new lie to keep the first lie going.......
