I cant even imagine some of the things they have seen and dealt with during their service so... was just curious to see if there were anything to help them readjust to being home?

In addition, lot of solders were complaining and frustrated for not being looked after which it caused lot of suicides attempt!

If i have a correct recollection, there're around 50 suicides in 07( when i watched the doc., few months back) and many since beginning of the war

Great question. No.
After WWII, out troops didn't come home for months after the shooting stopped. There was work to be done, such as turning in weapons, packing up, cleaning up, yes, some of this was Mickey Mouse work. Then, it was a month long trip home by ship, then more time getting processed out.
This allowed soldiers time to " decompress," just to talk to each other,to put away in their minds the horror they've seen.
Now, it's from the battlefield to home. They are being deprived of that couple weeks to " decompress." Is there any wonder we see so much about homeless vets and PTSD, .
A friend told me about his return from "Nam. One day he was on a combat patrol, the next day en route to the states, the next day , home. He was walking down the street, heard a truck backfire, yells "incoming" and hits the deck! he had no time to adjust!

Yeah, they're called hospitals. In the military, there are only two conditions: Active duty for the healthy or those who appear to be healthy and hospital care for those who need help to recover. There is a third for limited duty, this is when your physical problems do not rquire hospital care, but you're not at full capacity.

You would be amazed with the number of troops who will hide physical and mental problems, so they aren't required to spend time in the hospital. These folks just want to get home and are tired of following orders, so they don't reveal the problems they're having !

Yup, the post or base where they are assigned.

The post where I work at just welcomed back one of the units that came back this weekend, and another is getting ready to go back.

They come back, take a few weeks off if they want, then back to training and getting ready for future missions.

It's not like they go the Hilton in Paris or something and take several months off.

Active Duty units return to their regular posts. Reserve units spend a few weeks to a month at an active duty post doing out processing and medical evaluations before going home.

A lot of UK troops get to spend time in Cyprus or Germany on the way home from the sandpit.

when they come back to the united states, they go directly to their base and have outprocessing which allows them to deal with what all has happened and learn to live civilian life again before they are allowed to leave and return to their homes...my brother in law just got back from a year tour in Iraq
