Tigsy gave birth to 5healthy little kittens last night.
Are kittens born with fleas? As I found one on one of the kittens and yet mum is defleaed.

Where and what can I buy to use on kittens and nursing mum to get rid of the fleas?

When do I need to worm them? and can I use panacur paste from such an early age?

Thanks

You need to put a call in to your vet hospital and get some information. They can clue you in on what you can and can not use of all of them. Don't use panacur paste.....thats for horses isn't it? Different concentration. No, kittens are not born with fleas they get them from the environment......your house has fleas, or at least where the cat and kittens are.
Worm the kittens after you have a stool sample checked so you know what you are treating for. Check with your vet!!!

Kittens are not born with fleas, but if the mother has fleas, as she obviously does, they will pick them up right away.

What flea treatment are you using for her exactly? If it's from a store you know right away that it's not going to be working.

These cats need proper flea treatment. The kittens can be treated from 2 days of age using Frontline Spray. People on here are going to tell you to bath them with Dawn dish soap. Only do this if the kittens have many fleas - if you've just seen the one, wait a couple of days and then use the Frontline spray on them. After they're 2 days old, don't use Dawn dish soap anymore, it is not a flea treatment, it's just a way of washing fleas off temporarily.

The mother cat should have been wormed through her pregnancy so the kittens were not born with fleas. Worm her now. The kittens need to be wormed at 2, 4, 8 and 12 weeks of age, then monthly until 6 months old and 3 monthly thereafer and yes, use the Panacur Paste.

Kittens get fleas off their surroundings, so invest in a flea comb until they are a few months and old enough for a flea product.
Have a chat to your vet, there are many commercially available worm products, again the kittens need to be a bit older for this to be used, and your vet will know which are the most effective to use, each one has directions on the product.

No, kittens are not born with fleas. Please do not use anything for fleas on Momma cat or the babies. In the meantime if you find fleas you will have to pick them manually off the kittens and crush them (they have hard bodies so they are not easily killed). Kittens can be severely affected by exposure to flea medications of ANY kind. If you put any medications on the mother cat it will be transferred to the kittens.

New kittens are wormed at 6 to 8 weeks old when they are taken to the vet for their first check-up. It is absolutely not necessary to do anything to the kittens now.

Basically, the ONLY thing the little angels need right now is Momma. Try to interfere as little as possible right now. Momma knows how to take care of these babies.

I also need to remind you that Momma cat will be looking to get pregnant again as she nears the point of weaning the kits. Please have her spayed!

The five kittens you now have to find homes for is a death sentence for five in a shelter somewhere.
