Funny you should ask "why". To put the reason simply: Military people are only tools for someone else's political game. Their highest calling in life is being someone's gun. As such, their value lasts only as long as they are still useful.

I'm familiar with the group which carried out this study. And I don't buy the results. No one is bothering to check and see how many of these "homeless vets" are actually veterans of the armed forces. No one is bothering to check and see how many of these "veterans" were tossed out for mental conditions they had before entry.
I did a year as a VISTA volunteer dealing with the homeless in my community. Most of the "homeless vets" I encountered were out and out phonies. They couldn't tell what units they were with or demonstrate the simplest comprehension of military terms, etc.
But, the story you cite will get more mileage than one based on getting all the facts. A lot more mileage than the former private first class who posed as a decorated liuetenant colonel and attended a whole lot of military-related functions at a club in New York City. Or the fellow who received a quarter-century's worth of health care from the VA, including burial in a veterans' cemetery, without even serving one day.
In short, there are a lot of phonies out there. The trouble is that the media and organizations dealing with this issue don't go to the trouble of doing some fact-checking.

WOW, I bet i could almost write a book on this. But I do not feel well today so without the research I would normally do.....
First off I doubt that most homeless vets are fake, no doubt some of the are, possibly even many are fake vets. Why? Because there are so many programs available to vets who need assistance that are not available to the general public.
You want truth, google something along the lines of Veterans programs and see how many organizations are out there, then ask yourself how this report could be true.
There is no doubt in this vets mind that if there are homeless vets out there its because either they are fakes or they just do not know what programs are in place for them.
And if there was a way I sure would love to help educate them.
So about your illegals having it easier than our vets, go tell it to your liberal buddies, maybe they will believe it.

Many of the homeless vets are suffering from mental illness, such as PTSD and drug alcohol addiction. Many of them stay homless is because they do not feel comfortable with living as normal members of society or simply cannot cope.
While there are a lot of Homeless vets, they are many million more who have been some of our best citizens, they own business, man our police and fire departments, build and manufacture our goods.
Our government does a lot ofr our vets, but sometimes some slip through the cracks or simply don't want the help.

You seem to think there is some magical system in place, or should be in place, that dis-allows a veteran to become homeless. Once a person leaves the military, it isn't as if there is some monitor on them to control their future actions. Would you want something like that? It's a free country, people make choices, and you could find all sorts of situations and realities to give cause to complain about a negative situation, but why people jump immediately to blame the government is beyond me.

Republican congressmen like John Doolittle (r),california, have the worst record for voting for legisltation for benefit veterans. Republicans are CLEARLY at fault for killing more benefits to veterans than "Liberals". If you really want to support our troops, NEVER vote for a republican.

I have not had any experience in working with illegal immigrants; I have had, however, a good deal of experience in working with vets in Arkansas. I will tell you that if their is a homeless disabled vet in the state of Arkansas they are in that shape because they want to be. There is a huge amount of help within my state and I find it hard to believe that that is not true in other wealthier states.

There is a Senate Armed forces committee. They should be taking care of this problem.
If you don't think they are, look and see who is on it.Does that answer your question?
