Yes, one of my dachshund does this regularly, runs and beats me to the bathroom if he can - sometimes he brings a toy, sits and just makes sure I'm o.k.
I really think he fears the flush will take me down with the water, only thing I can think of - he seems to be guarding me.
It really is comical, except that he runs into my legs sometimes in his hurry to get there and monitor the toilet monster before I do.

Yeah, but only when I take a bath...it's wierd and I haven't been able to do anything about it except holler for a family member to distract the dog so it will forget I'm in the bathroom...I guess they get lonely and think there is a secret door to escape through in the bathroom and we're never coming back?
I've found it can be a tight squeeze especially with my big dog, so I eventually taught him to go in the bathroom before me, turn around and move so I can shut the door, then lay down in front of the door so I can sit on the toilet - small bathroom, me, and a large dog is a pain if I'm in a hurry tho.

Mine don't like to be shut away from me. They want the door open so they can be there. They also come in the bathroom and put their feet on the edge of the tub when I'm taking a bath. One of mine used to jump up on my lap while I was sitting on the toilet!! Just spoiled and really attached, at least in my case.
Since I don't find it a problem for me, I haven't trained them to not do it.

LOL....thank goodness someone else is experiencing this! Yes, our dog does that too. I don't think he is really watching us go to the bathroom but just doesn't like to be left behind a closed door!

I have discovered that some dogs are fascinated by our bathroom behavior. I have an ACD who likes to stick her head in the toilet and watch the swirls. We actually had to go out and buy those self-closing toilet seats to keep her out of the toilet. Disgusting, but she's a dog!

she's not watching you go to the bathroom per se. she just wants to be where ever you are... say you guys are playing in the living room and you go to the bedroom, she will follow you there. and if you close the door on her, she will scratch it as well.

She just wants to be with you. She doesn't really know or care what you are doing, she just knows that is a room you go in without her and close the door, keeping her out.

4 example, i am playing with him, and suddenly i need 2 go. he follows me and hes watches right by the door. and, sometimes he gets bored, and his food and water dish is like close to the bathroom door so he drinks and watches us go. kinda funny lol =P

All dogs love going in the bathroom with their family. My little one comes in every time I am in there. I guess they figure your with them when they do their business so they should return the favor and be with you.
