"Fortran based" computer. I understand that Fortran is not part of the operating system. I meant Fortran that runs on PC and not on main frame. Any body has Fortran compiler that runs on PC?

My previous experience of Fortran was using main Frame, IBM, VAX. I never used a Fortran on PC.

I do not if C-Language has all the capabilities of Fortran? It will be a new language to me.

Down loading A Fortran program and run it will require tremendous challenge from my part. This is why I was enquiring about compilers that may run for $700.00. Any body has experience with such compilers?

Fortran is a programming language, not an operating system, so there is no such thing as a "Fortran based" computer. You can get Fortran compilers and development systems for PCs, but unless you are maintaining old engineering software, there is no reason to use Fortran. C will do everything Fortran can and much more.

You can get a version of FORTRAN that will run on pc's under different operating systems as a free download.

gfortran is the gnu version of fortran. Binaries can be downloaded to run under windows, Linux or MacOS.

But no; I don't use it. Some do. Note that when FORTRAN was developed the primary consideration was making a compiler that was fast and efficient so that people would adopt it.
