Ariana, what cat??? Did he say cat?
Anyway, the adults will die in winter, but their eggs will survive and hatch in warm temperatures.
You need to vacuum everywhere, wash whatever can be washed in laundry detergent, and throw out some other stuff. Have yourself a good old clean-out.
Any adult fleas you find can be killed between your fingernails - basically squeezed to death. If you find that repulsive, get a tall glass and put a little water in it. Add a drop of liquid detergent, such as washing-up liquid. Grab the flea and drop it in.
If you don't add the soap, the flea will be able to jump out! You need the detergent to drown them.
Any in your hair or on your body will drown in the bath, if you use shampoo or soap.
So basically, it is the eggs you have to worry about.
They could be in anything soft, such as carpets or sofa etc.
If you can get away for a weekend, you could ask professional exterminators to come and fumigate your room. Or you can buy a "bomb-blaster" and do it yourself.

A flea might live a year and a half under ideal conditions. These include the right temperature, food supply, and humidity. Generally speaking, though, an adult flea only lives for 2 or 3 months. Without a host for food, a flea's life might be as short as a few days. But with ample food supply, the adult flea will often live up to 100 days.

Fleas can lay eggs in the carpet that can survive months. They are really hard to get rid of! So the '1 or 2' odd fleas may not last long, but if they lay eggs, you'll have fleas for a long time yet...

Gosh..hate to scare you but they do say for every one you see there are a multitude of hidden buddies! More yucky facts.... cat fleas lay dormant for sometime..nestling under wallpaper and between crevices in wooden floorboards. They lay in wait apparently for suitable host...ugh. (Though they can't live on us they can feed off of us.) You have a number of choices. A/ fumigate your rooms/house or, if you have a pet B/invest in some decent flea drops from the vet. Some 'advantage' drops would do the trick. Imagine... Hungry flea jumps onto secretly treated pet, takes a sneaky but uninvited bite, recoils in agony and dies!!!! Ha ha... victory to the now 'bite free' owner!! The vets also have a flea drop that interfers with the reproduction cycle of the flea (but can't recall name)...think of it as contraception for fleas!! NO... I SWEAR IT IS TRUE. Then theres C/ Learn to live with your new found guests, train them up and start a circus...UGH. I know what i'd go with... all the best x

You have to spray your room and treat the cat at the same time with flea treatment from your vet. Only then will you break the fleas life cycle.

Not long, but that's irrelevant really. The point is a) there will be more fleas than what you've seen and b) female fleas lay hundreds of eggs! I suggest you treat your room, and your pets if you have any.

Thirty to ninety days on average. Though it is likely that the flea will reproduce so I would get rid of it as soon as possible.

Wow, that was easy--30 to 90 days.

However if they breed you'll have eggs which will hatch and grow more. Best to treat the cat with Advantage and that'll stop it all, I've found Advantage protects for 6 weeks.

They do not live very long, but they live long enough to breed and make more fleas. If you are seeing one or two, there are a LOT more and soon there will be TONS more!!!!!!
