It makes it more clinical and professional, you would undress for a girlfriend/boyfriend and that is more intimate behavior. It also gives you a little more dignity, but I still hate it.

Si, I have often wondered this myself.
One time He came back before i had gotten the paper robe on, and backed out, acting all embarrassed.
Thing is, he's not so embarrassed when he's all up in your stuff with a speculum.

Still, they don't have to see you undressing, bending over, etc. Watching someone undress is more of an invasion than just seeing them naked when it's time to examine them.
