Some people really need to get a life on here.
I asked a simple question all i needed was a simple answer.
Besides the VET said that it was because it had our scent on them

She ate them?? Yikes. 1st of all, wash your hand hands with antibacterial soap and then put rubber gloves on before touching anything or anyone. 2nd of all, wash your hands again with the gloves on with antibacterial soap. Don't touch anything at all accept the puppies with your gloves on. This is not a sure thing but I have heard of someone else with this problem and this method worked well for them. Hope this is helpful.

We had a shelter dog rescue that was only at our house two days before she had her litter, she was starved, abandoned, an outside dog her entire life, probably abused, never trained, and VERY freaked out by us - she ate two of her puppies right after she had them, on inspection they would have been healthy and alive at birth, so she basically ate them because she was freaked out and because of our intervention she left the rest of the litter alone. Mother dogs do NOT eat their puppies because of your scent, they eat them because their fight or flight drive tells them that for some reason the puppies will not survive, meaning your presense upsets her to the point that she feels she has NO CHOICE. Meaning that the way you keep her makes her feel like she has NO CHOICE and she has to kill and eat them to survive herself, it is a powerful thing when the drive to flee and save ones self overrides the instinct to protect and mother, maybe your dog is just a bad mother - but that is passed on, was passed on from her own mother and she should not have been bred in the first place, let alone twice! So, you should call your local animal shelter and ask them to come pick up the entire litter and your mother dog - they will be able to take better care of her than you can and if you in any way love or care about your dog or have any sense of right and wrong that is what you should do. Please.

I doubt your dog ate her puppies because your scent was on them--there's probably some other issue involved. Whatever the case, if you need to move the puppies to keep them safe, pick them up and move them. When my dog had puppies, she didn't care at all if we touched them. Did you ask your vet about the puppy-eating problem before?

She didn't eat them because you touched them...geez and you are continuing to make puppies....

Get her spayed - people that don't have a clue what they are doing don't need to be making more of the millions of dogs that end up in body piles every year in the world --- the puppies will likely all die unless she is smart enough to care for them herself. She will put them in the dog house if she wants to otherwise she will remove them if you do.

add: Y'all comeon! She is not in a whelping box, the pups are not on a blanket -- they are outside in the dirt somewhere... the ***** likely had ended up with a uterine infection before and the pups started fading and she destroyed them, which is what any good mother dog will do -- it is instinct -- the same thing will likely happen if the mother doesn't die first...

That is insane!! No mother will eat them just because you touched them!! Why on earth is she outside in the first place? make her a nice place in a garage or basement make a box with old blankets in it put her food and water next to it and put the puppies in the box!! Take care of her !!! DO you have her on puppy food? She needs more then just dog food!!

She didn't eat them because you got your scent on them. Dogs do not do that. She ate them because she may have been too young or she's just plain not a good mother. Those puppies, if they're to have a chance at survival, need to be kept warm and dry and a ***** that's not a good mother should never be bred. Do her a favour and get her spayed.

You need to SPAY soooo badly!! Dogs do not eat puppies because you touch them.....unless she is really freaked out by you, which means you don't spend too much time with the dog!
Letting a dog have puppies outside is just sad, cruel and WRONG.
If you can't offer even the most basic of care, you should not have a dog.
What a SAD SAD SAD SAD situation for the poor dog.

im hoping you mean in an outdoor shed or something as surely its too cold outside for them?

anyway

have you tried just waiting until their all lay on the same blanket and then just pick up the blanket >> put the blanket in the box >> then move them in the box >> then just lift out the blanket?

ive never heard of a mum eating her litter as they had scent on before though :S

If you must touch them, pet the mother for a couple of min, then place them on a towel or blanket move that then when finished moving pet mother again to move them where you want them. so you will have her sent on you to the end of the process. but then again if the mother doesnt want them there she will just up and move them again.
