But can't take it when they are the ones under the magnifing glass?

I find that Catholics are often the most tolerant denomination. Evangelical Protestants, on the other hand...

As someone who is neither a Catholic nor a Protestant, I can tell you from an observer's point of view that it is mainly the Protestants who rant against Catholics. In general, I mean, not talking about whatever individual case you might be referring to.

What I've seen personally is that when Catholics are attacked often enough by Protestants with comments like "Catholics worship Mary and the saints" and other such ignorance, they do sometimes attack back. Mostly they don't bother though, I think because to attack back over such ignorance is really a waste of time for most of them. They have better things to do.

Also, we (Jews and Catholics) may have a very bloody history, but in this day and age no Catholic I've ever met has tried to convert me to Christian paganism - unlike the Protestants who when they learn I am Jewish, constantly try to get me to believe in their pagan man/god human virgin sacrifice for sin (there is no such role for the messiah in Judaism, this comes from ancient paganism adopted by the Church).

So, I have to come down on the side of the Catholics. MAINLY because all I see coming from the Protestants is ignorance like "Catholics worship mary and the saints" when they actually do not. It's simple doctrine anyone can read and learn for themselves that this isn't true. The fact that Protestants would rather keep repeating such ignorance and then turning around and attacking Catholics for something they don't even do, is just plain "stoopid" in my eyes, and does nothing to further their cause.

You apparently haven't been around this Forum very long. I'm Catholic, and it seems as if I'm constantly having to defend my beliefs against attacks from those who are convinced that it's their sworn duty to "save" us. I can't count the number of times that I've been told we Catholics aren't "real Christians" and that we're going to Hell -- this from so-called fellow believers! I can defend my faith very nicely when necessary, but the idea that other Christian believers are the ones attacking us is very disheartening.

For the most part, the Catholic members of this Forum tend to be among the most tolerant and open-minded of all Christian groups. I'm not sure where you've gotten your experience (however much or little that is) with members of my denomination, but I doubt that it was here in R&S.

With all due respect, I really hadn't noticed this. When I was in a Catholic youth group we would have speakers from other religions come in and speak with us about their faiths. There was a Buddhist monk one week, the minister from the Methodist church the next, then a Rabbi the week after that . . .
I always kind of respected the Catholics for that willingness to demonstrate for us that other faiths are just as important in the lives of their faithful as ours was to us. But perhaps we were unique among Catholic churches?

Nothing new under the sun. Don’t most religious beliefs rant against other religious beliefs?

Everyone sails their own ship. Have a good trip.

Now that I think about it, I've never had a Catholic rant against one of my post. No, I'm not Catholic ... I’m non-denominational Christian.

You have misconceptions about the official teaching of the Church here. The Catholic Church states that we are judged by a honest, sincere and informed conscience. You do not have to be a Catholic to be saved if your informed conscience sincerely tells you that. The Catholic Church does maintain that it is the one true Church which contains the truth in its fullness. All peoples, regardless of their religion, will be saved through the Catholic Church if they follow their informed conscience honestly and sincerely. Deliberate ignorance will not be an excuse, but only God is the judge.

Been coming to R&S for awhile and I've yet to see a post by a Catholic that rants against others.
You on the other hand are most likely a troll trying to stir the shet.

It's been my experience that Catholics are probably the most concilatory and ecumenical of the Christian denominations. If there's any ranting going on, it's usually people spouting anti-Catholic propaganda.

Fear of being wrong basically--coming from being human, and the insecurity which comes along with it.

But it seems you're experiencing them to be more obnoxious.... hmmm.... maybe that's to show that they're headed morally in the wrong direction in some way; I only say that becasue I've never heard that Jesus--nor any of His Apostles--- ever bad-mouthed the religious opinions of others.

I grew up Catholic, however, I was never taught to bad mouth people.

i'm catholic and honestly i have no idea, i really don't like the way it's pushed on other people. i think everyone has the right to believe what they want, and they shouldn't make eveyone else look bad in the process. i never mind when my faith is under the magnifying glass, because it should happen, i mean what good does it do if we go around thinking we are infalible?
