Today, while I was visiting the bank, I looked out of the bank windows & noticed that two strange-looking young men were doing something to my bike. I have no idea what, but one of the men was squeezing my hand-breaks while the other was actually STROKING my bike's bar, the bar that goes along the side of the pedals. I love my bike very much & am very protective of it as I heavily depend on my bike to get me to work since my work is too great a distance to walk. I also enjoy cycling my bike for pleasure. So, naturally, when I saw these men acting strangely towards my bike, I rushed to my bike's defence. I rushed to the bank doors & shouted to them, "hey! That's my bike. Don't touch my bike." They apologised and left, which was fine. However, it left me a little shaken & confused as to what they were doing. I always chain my bike up, so I wasn't frightened of it being stolen or anything.

What do you think of this strange story? What on EARTH were they doing to my bike?

RESPONSE TO Absolut Martini. I don't know what a tweaker is, but when I said they looked weird, I meant as in their odd behaviour.

RESPONSE TO FIRE R. Please, don't take offense, but you really SHOULD NOT go around picking up people's bikes, new or old. I certainly did not appreciate those men for doing that today as I considered it to be very rude & intrusive. If they had admired my bike by only LOOKING, then that's fine. But you really should not touch things that don't belong to you. You be accused of trying to steal the bike & be reported to the Police.

RESPONSE TO TIPPER BORE. I respect your opinion. But I would much rather be labelled as a paranoid, over-reactive person than to do nothing & risk someone trying to steal or simply damage my bike. They could have been vandals & slashed my tires or something. No. Although I respect your opinion, I do not agree with it. Peace.

Okay, I'm glad YOU said it was weird first, because I read your question and all I could think was, "Whoa. That's...weird."

Other than my wife, my bikes are the things in my life with which I have a "hands-off" policy when it comes to strangers. Like my wife, I really don't mind when strangers steal admiring glances...I kind of like it, actually. However, when hands that aren't mine come in contact with said wife or bikes, my hackles rise immediately. All of my senses are heightened to any impending possibilities, and I brace for the call to action that one further move may force me into.

As you can tell, I probably would have done the same thing as you. After further research (read story provided by link below), I have concluded that you acted in a reasonable manner, and probably averted an absolute tragedy.

Cheers, mate.

-A "Tweaker" is a person who uses Methamphetamine (Crystal, Speed, Meth, Crank, etc.). They are called "Tweakers", because when they are high on Meth. they can't sit still or sleep. They have a tendency to twitch and flinch a lot when they are high.
-Yup, I agree with keeping your hands off someone Else's property. "Look, but Don't Touch". It is called "Respect" which is sometimes overlooked in our society!
-Maybe, the boys had a strange Bike Fetish? Squeezing and Stroking your bike possibly turned those weirdo's on!
-You did the right thing by telling them not to touch your bike. Make sure you wash your bikes grips and cranks. You don't know what other things those weirdo's hands have been squeezing or stroking!

Hate to say it but they were probably sizing it up to nick it!!!

Look but don't touch is 'normal' behaviour - (Although, I must admit I have lifted the odd bike in my time, just to gauge the weight!)

Your presence alerted them to the fact, that they were being watched!! - Bike theft is pretty common and it seems as though your intervention avoided a trip to the Police station.

Life goes on mate!

They where checking your bikes braking power and lifting up to assess the bikes weight( I think). I always do this when I see a new bike.

I would feel uncomfortable seeing people standing around my bike. If anybody touches it take down their names and addresses.

they wanted to kidnap your bike and take it back to their underground lair to have their way with it.
