You can freely carry a pocket knife of 3 or 4 inches but its width should not be too more.

All knives, except plastic or rounded butter, are prohibited on airplanes. This rule went into effect, oh, I dunno, sometime around September 11, 2001.

It doesn't matter if it's a 1 inch blade or a 4 inch blade. Knives aren't allowed in your carry-on, or with you in the cabin of an airplane.

Checked baggage is another story, however. You can have all sorts of things in your checked bag that you can't in your carry-on (big cans of hair spray, chef's knives, even stun guns, etc.).

do you mean "carry a pocket knife onto an airplane in your carry-on items"?

yes, if you want to go to jail. it is illegal.

for protection in public? get serious. if a pocket knife is going to protect you from something in New Jersey, you are in serious trouble already. better carry a gun, or a flame-thrower instead.

Ok,, for protection????

Are you serious????

Thing is,,, the Airport Security will protect the people from you... They cuff you faster than anything you've ever seen.

The only protection you need to bring is a condom. If you ever do get some. Which I doubt,,

Carry a knife for protection,,,,, GIMME A BREAK!

In many cities any knife with a blade over 2 " is illeagal. it would be wise to call the police department and ask what local law is.

No you are not allowed to bring that on the aircraft in your carry on luggage, you will however be able to pack that item in your checked luggage.
