Our property has been the victim of relentless vandalism and tresspassing for almost 4 years. If I capture video of a person or group breaking a beer bottle on the sidewalk or our front yard will the police arrest them? I would also be providing the police with a license plate number and a description of the driver and passenger.

With positive ID, yes they would have to arrest the perpetrator. I'm sorry you are experiencing this, it sounds awful. Why would anyone harass you like this?! Best wishes to you.

Why have you waited so long to invest in cameras that will protect what you work so hard to have?

If the cost is prohibitive, look into maybe renting the equipment for a while. If the action mellows out after someone sees the cops taking a report, your vandal may be nearby

If you live in a large city, they don't care. They just file a report because they have to. They have to deal with rapes and murders all day, so your vandalism is just an annoyance to them. If you live in a small town, it's a bigger deal to them and they will be more likely to deal with the problem. The truth is, vandalism is a minor offense and they will most likely get a slap on the wrist if they are caught.

The police may take into account your evidence and will investigate even further, but in order for someone to be prosecuted, it will need to stand in court too.

EDIT: Actually, don't know if it will be relevant as it's a uk sight, but I guess it will give you a little insight.

I don't think the cops will arrest them, but if you give them what you have, you are establishing a record of prior complant. That will make it easier to get the problem resolved in the future.

Well, if you are ina big city with more serious problems, probably not. Unless they do something more serious than breaking a bottle. Now if you live in Mayberry...they might, but sounds like its been going on for a long time. You never know with cops.
