Looks like a woman to me. Of course, since this was obviously not painted during the actual Last Supper and there is no proof that this event ever occurred, I don't know why people are so up in arms about it.

that's John. Leonardo did yet another portray of a youthful guy who's very very nearly same to the john of the final Supper. right here's a link to "Angel in the Flesh," yet another Da Vinci comedian strip. it particularly is fairly needless to say a male, however the constructive properties are fairly effeminate, and actually the face seems lots like John in "The final Supper."

The most popular view is that it is John. I read somewhere that he was the youngest of the disciples, but how anyone knew that, I don't know.

For those who say it's a woman, don't forget that there are two other people in that picture who look like women too lol. If it's supposedly a picture of the Last Supper, and there are 12 people plus Jesus in the picture, it stands to reason it's one of the disciples, right?

It's the Apostle John, it is common for that period that "apprentices" were painted in such a way as to mirror their "Masters".
notice that both Jesus and John are leaning away from each other, and John is wearing red on blue while Jesus is wearing blue on red. This device communicates a closeness between the two were John is a student or apprentice while Jesus "of course" is the master.
It is stated in the Gospels that John was closest to Jesus of all the apostles, which could have been Leonardo's inspiration for employing this technique.

I must admit, John looks very feminine in this work but "feminizing" a figure sometimes suggests submission or servitude.

I don't really know. I wasn't there to ask Leo what he was painting. Some say it is John. Some say it is Mary Magdalene. Unless some one makes a time machine and we can go ask Leo D. who it is, I guess we will never know.
