My daughter has been a vegan for about 8 months now. I didnt mind it when she started, she was still a good eater but two months ago she stopped eating all the processed vegan foods. She eats oatmeal every morning, brown rice for lunch and dinner with tofu and vegetables. and she snacks of fruit and vegetables.she lost to much weight in the past two months, she looks sick. Im trying to get her to eat meat again but she wont. I wish she would eat something besides rice for once or even have a damn vegan cookie or something..something to fatten her up..She says she never gets sick of what she eats..I mean she can't go on expecting to live a long life like this. Im losing my mind..everyone asks me..what happened to her..is she okay. Im so sick of looking at her, seeing and feeling her bones when I hug her

First,
You need accept your daughters decision of being a vegan
DO NOT pressure her to eat meat, EVER.

Next,
If she seems extremely skinny to the point where people are pointing it out to you, then you should consult her doctor about it.
He/She will be able to reccomend healthy ways to gain wieght WITHOUT meat, or prossessed food.

Good Luck!

My first reaction when I read this was that you sound like you're overreacting a bit. I don't know if that's the case, but something about the way you wrote says you are being a little dramatic. Sorry if that's not the case, but I just want to make sure you're not getting all panicky as mothers have a tendency to do sometimes.

Is she really that thin? Is it alarmingly thin, medically underweight? Or is she just thinner than she used to be. What looks sickly to you might be a perfectly normal weight, people have differing perceptions of what skinny, sickly, or healthy mean. Maybe people are just not used to seeing her so thin. People can be quite skinny and still healthy, is she suffering any ill effects from her diet or weight loss? If not, then I don't really think it's a problem. But true, on a vegan diet, she is probably not getting some of the nutrients she needs (particularly protein) and would benefit from a supplement. She's not gonna waste away and die on a diet like you described, but a better variety of nutrients will keep her body healthier. Why did she decide to go vegan? For health reasons? If she did it to lose weight, then yes, there could be a problem. Share your concerns with a doctor and let them evaluate her diet and weight and see if it is within normal range and ask how she should supplement some of the nutrients she might be missing. Good luck!

If she's vegan and refuses to eat healthy-but-fatty vegan foods (like nuts or cookies), then I think it's fairly likely that she's actually anorexic (or becoming one) and using the vegan lifestyle to avoid calories and fat. It's actually quite a common ploy by those who wish they could avoid food entirely. It gives them an excuse when people ask questions as to why they're not eating a balanced diet.

Veganism is really unhealthy too. I believe you can be a healthy vegetarian, but never a vegan. The human body is made to be omnivorous, and veganism is too far removed from that. Soy was certainly never meant to be such a large part of a person's diet.

If she's under 18, drag her to a doctor and see what she says. If she's over 18 you'll have to do some convincing, but she needs help NOW.

At least make her a vegetarian! You need to contact your doctor and get some facts down about how to go on a healthy vegan diet. She can't save the whole world by only eating as a vegan, but she can seriously hurt herself not eating right.

It would be good to know how old this person is. If she is young and still growing this could be serious. If she's an adult and could stand to loose some weight a different story.

One thing to try is vegan protein sources. She needs it more than just at dinner.

Does she have an eating disorder?

She needs some kind of protein in her diet... tofu, just isn't enough.. will she eat white fish, such as haddock or cod?? Maybe some shrimp?? She should definately take a multiple vitamin. Eggplant parm is a good source of vitamins... can be made with fat free cheese... get some protein & Calcium into her!!!

it's actually very dangerous to be a vegan. try getting her to stop eating red meat and start eating white meat...that's what my aunt does. get someone like a really close friend to get on her case too. that'll probably help.

She might need to take a protein supplement. They make many that are vegan, and she might want to get one of those.

Get some information on what vegan's eat and maybe you can help educate her it. Maybe she's not getting all the proper nutrients.
