I'm honestly so confused about the issue of music. There are so many who say it's haram and then there are scholars who say it's acceptable. What's your opinion?

I just would like to say that I thank you all for your well-thought out answers and opinions. They were all very helpful, and I will not pick a best answer because many answers here were really thorough and informative; I can't pick just one.

Jazak Allah Khair, thank you everyone for helping me understand the concept of music in Islam more.

Salaam.

In Islam music is haram no matter if the words are sweet even the Islamic Nasheeds if the music has instruments in it then it is haram.

Some people say to me its not Haram but Islam forbids it Haram is Haram and the ones that say this have to face Allah and explain why they ignored the fact that is haram and just went on how they felt.

It also states in the Qur'an that Music is haram: Surah luqman verse 6: says
And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e. Music, singing, etc,) to mislead (men) from the path of Allah without knowledge, and takes it (the path of Allah or the verses of the qur'an by mockery. for such there will be a humiliating torment (in the hell fire).

This is coming from the qur'an and you can't argue with the qur'an or deny it!

This is a very hard subject to cover so here are some sites that I think will be helpfull to clear anything up I hope it helps salam alykum...

The reason that it's some how forbidden in our smart & logic Islam is that it's like a very pretty door to another world of sin,

you can't see the wrong with the door and can't blame the door for ppl sins but still it's one of the ways that you pass through to a bad world without even knowing it, plus look at any male singer now, they twist their bodies, shake their waists & same for female singers which is worse bec. It moves the male feelings & desires to do the wrong thing yes some how ppl love that but ppl also love smoking, drugs & doing bad deeds all the time which doesn't makes it OK to do so

Open that door
And slide with no control

By the way: I am guilty as charged bec. I love to hear music

What you mistakenly call a religious or ironically an Islamic music, is only a small door that leads to the bigger door that eventually leads to another world of sin

Music is haram. It is in the Quraan ("idle talk and entertainment") and in hadeeths, Sunna, consensus, ijm, the scholars/ulema agreed about this (Standing Committee), i don't know what more evidence do you and the other users here want, really..
Those ppl who say music is helal are kuffars (as Abu Haneefa said)..
Allah (SWT) also said that there will be ppl who will consider music and such things to be permissible and helal (AstagfiruAllah) but yes.. only a very few will enter Paradise and so many ppl will end up in Hell..

Well, there are all sorts of music, & i think it it also depends on what sort of music one is listening.
Concerning songs with Coranic verses, or Islamic sayings, some say it is a way of propagating islam, others say it is a blasphemy.
I honestly am confused about this, but I do prefer listening to such songs, rather than other songs, like Occidental songs.

do not shy from refusing to follow the clear commands in the Quran and instead follow man made laws and books of Hadith and Sunna that contradict the Quran, contradict simple common sense and insult the message of the prophet Muhammad. These books of Hadith and sunna were written over 200 years after the death of prophet Muhammad (See Hadith and the corruption of this great religion).

Allah SWT made everything and everything can be used against you and or for you. That is your choice again.
The Quran says don't come drunk to me in Meccian verses and then in Medina verses Allah SWT holds down the law and says NO ALCOHOL nothing to alter you from my will. So you have to look at these verses when they came, how they came and for what purpose and understand their meaning. What the Quran stated to Muhammed he made transparent to you all. You all lack to understand the value of Muhammed SAW as a prophet and why he was inserted wisdom as a child long before his prophet hood. You all missed on this except Batman. Music has nothing to do with his or the hijab its your intention as such!

As for the dijal, he is a pathetic waste of nothing and those who believe him were always with him to begin with he will not need any music to tempt them again, what is he a pide pipper of humans ahaha what a joke!. wake up man!

Basically Music in Islam is haraam. Because of hadiths which state that musical instruments are from the devil.
Also, it is said that many Muslims will believe music is not Haraam etc..
Islamic songs which talk about Islam and Allah(SWT) are ok as long as there are no musical instruments and the sole message is Islam....However, there was a question about worshiping with a song(like in the Masjid) and this is haraam...
Bukhari Vol 7, Book 69 Hadith 494B
Prophet Mohammed(SAW) has even said "from my followers there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks, and the use of musical instruments as lawful. And there will be some who will stay near the side of a mountain and in the evening their shepherd will come to them with their sheep and ask them for something, but they will say to him, "return to us tomorrow." Allah wull destroy them during the night and will let the mountain fall on them, and HE will transform the rest of them into monkeys and pigs and they will remain so till the Day of Resurrection."

“Music is an issue that has been hotly debated by scholars of the past and the present. While many of them have been generally inclined to condemn all forms of music, with the singular exception of ad-duff (tambourine) in weddings, quite a few of them have taken a more positive approach of considering only music containing sensual, pagan, or unethical themes or subliminal messages as being categorically forbidden.

The latter view seems to be more consistent with the general nature of Islam, which is undoubtedly a complete way of life that caters to all of the genuine human instincts and needs within permissible limits. Thus, to say that all music is forbidden in Islam does not seem to agree with the balanced approach of Islam to issues of human life and experience.

Traditions often cited by the first group scholars to justify condemnation of all musical instruments and music, according to some scholars, are considered as either spurious, or phrased in such way solely because of their associations with drinking, dancing, and sensuality.

While everyone agrees that all forms of music that contain pagan, sensual themes, or subliminal messages are clearly forbidden, the latter group of scholars considers all forms of music free of such themes and messages as permissible.

As a matter of fact, we know from the authentic traditions that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, not only allowed music in the weddings but also listened to girls singing: While listening to girls singing on such an occasion, he interrupted them only once when they sang the following verse, “In our midst is a prophet who knows what will happen tomorrow”; whence, the Prophet, peace be upon him, told them, “Cut this sentence out, and continue singing what you have been singing earlier.” There is nothing in the sources to indicate that the above permission is limited to the occasion of wedding, as some people tend to think.

In light of these, according to the last mentioned group of scholars, music that is deemed to be free of un-Islamic and unethical themes and messages, the same is true of musical instruments so long as they are not used for the above, have been considered as permissible.

But we have to stress that Islam clearly prohibits mixed dancing of males and females.”

Differing opinions take people out of their "comfort zone", you might say. People can be quite babyish about things. Exactly, I agree, whether I agree or disagree with it, its no reason to fly off the handle BA: I take it we're all gonna watch "What We Do Is Secret" now (horrible heroin joke). Right now, Scrubs on Comedy Central.

look, this question is asked many times and i search for an answer for so long till i got this:

1]there are two opinions about music but they both agree on a basic principle:songs that talks about love and anything that provoke ur emotions and things like that, any songs that has no use but make u spend time listening thinking about emotions is haram as it's a waste of time.of course add to this rap music that contains cussing and talking about drugs and sex and other stuff

2]then the two opinions is devided:
a-one opinion say that useing instruments is totally forbidden except ''douff'' (percussions) and any other songs, even it's nasheed, but contains strings instruments are forbidden

b-the other simpler opinion say that any song that doesn't contain anything of the above said and have all insruments in it ,it's allowed.

now u have two opinions,so u have the right to pick what suits u,and no one has the right to make u feel that he's better than u because u choose the easier opinion.

tell u an incident, the prophet's sahabis and muslims where travelling to ppl called ''bany quryza'',so the prophet said for who beilive in Allah and the doomsday, not to pray al aser unless he's in ''bany quryza''
so they went and when they were on the road, the time for prayer was up...
a group of them said we must pray because we msut pray on time, and the prophet said that just to encourage us

the other group said no,the prophet said sth and it must be obeyed...
and some of them prayed and some didn't and they didnt mock each other...
and when they finally told the prophet, they were BOTH right..

salam
