Also used for rollers in the paper making industry. The rollers are sometimes in awkward shapes at both ends and they use heat shrinking plastic to cover to avoid corrosion. It also give the ease of stripping and replacement.

That is common on antenna cables where water leakage would kill the signal going to an antenna up on a tower they would not want to climb again. They use a heat shrink kit that has a rubber adhesive inside and that then is shrunk by a heat gun to encapsulate the whole area of the connection.

There are cheaper heat shrink tubing types sold by the yard that are often used to reinforce a connection and protect the wires from casual contact with water (in cars under the hood to avoid rain or slush splashes).

Heat-shrink tubing is used a lot in automotive wiring to protect the connections from corrosion.
Many boat storage companies used it also to wrap boats for outside winter storage and prevent water intrusion from the elements.
