I am planning to get a Samsung lcd soon its either going to be a 40 in or 42in lcd. Now I want to know do I really need to get a 1080 lcd or will I be fine with a 720 if I plan on sitting about 6 feet away from the tv. I plan on using it for watching hd dvds and playing ps3. If possible show a source that discusses this topic on 1080 vs 720. The ones i read said there is no real noticable difference until you get to 50 inches and above.

Go for 1080p if you have lots of 1080p content. You should notice the difference on a 42" from 6' away.

I have a Phillips 60" DLP HD TV.

It did not say anything about that it was a 1080I compatable.

but when i got my Scientific Atlanta 8300 HD Cable box, and when i connected the Component cables it said on Channel AV 1 that it was being viewd at 1080I the cabel box was set on that, but the tv screen is the place where it said it was showing 1080I, so I really dont think you need to worry about the 1080I just that if its HD Compatable, and Ive seen 1080I using the HDMI cable and theres really no difference at all, just get an LCD tv and make sure its HD Ready.

I'd get the 1080p HDTV. Go to a Best Buy or Circuit City and compare the picture quality between the tv's.

I would not suggest the Samsung units, they are the most unreliable brands along with Philips/Magnavox. They have the most problems, and costly repairs.

Most Samsung units fail right after warranty, and I can get money on it lasting no longer than 4 years TOPS.

If I were you, I would spend you money on a unit that no only has a same if not better picture but also the most relaible units.

Yes it is the Sony Line.

I would GET the 1080P TV set...
SOMEDAY you'll get HD TV and you'll want the extra resolution.
By paying the additional costs NOW you won't have to start from scratch later....

And yes, you WILL notice the difference on that size TV.
