The only people terrified by the ACLU, are those who have fallen for the neo-conservative myth that the ACLU pursues needless litigation at the expense of this country. Granted the ACLU has gone too far in some cases, but this is the exception, not the rule. For the most part the ACLU fights for the underdog, and nothing can be more American than that.
I second your notion that every American soldier should carry an ACLU card. I don’t think it will have any effect on enemy combatants, but I think it will make neo-conservative hypocrites, who gladly send our men to fight frivolous wars of occupation for profit, think twice about doing so, knowing that the ACLU, given enough support from servicemen, can call these unscrupulous politicians to account for misusing our military power, and abusing our men.
Conservatives decry how litigious society has become. What this is, really, is code for the fact that they hate having their corruption and exploitive practices checked by our judicial system.

And what good would that do anyways, the ACLU is just a fancy name for a bunch of attorneys making big $$$$ and getting govt subsidies to support only major lobbyist groups.
The common folk wouldn't even get the courtesy of a return phone call.

better yet, we should just do away wth the ACLU altogether.
I wish we could, but its these lawyers who prey on the loopholes in the law, and have done more to harm currupt and further confuse issues than they actually do on helping anything.
