what if you slip the ring on her finger while she sleeps and when she wakes up she'll see it and then you can ask her i saw it in this movie "diary of a mad black woman" it was sort of cute and so unexpected.

it depends on what she likes. if she's a school teacher, then you may want to get the kids together and have them do something cute (kinda like the beginning of meet the parents, when he was gonna propose with the signs, but didn't cause the sister called)
if she likes desserts, then try baking the ring in a cupcake with a heart on it or something of the like.
send her on a scavenger hunt through the house (or even around town if you know enough people to hide clues for you) then have the ring be the last clue. (you could have a tape in the tape player where you're singing the mr. rogers' theme, then the next clue would be at your next door neighbor's house, etc.)

Go to a good restaurant and tell the waiter to say hello to her as Miss (and your last name) when she tells him shes not Miss x ,you pop the question on your knees with the ring in your hand asking her if she would like to be Miss X.
Or something like that.

Well Aidan from Sex & the City proposed to Carrie when they went walkin his dog n he asked her to hold the lead while he then got down on one knee n asked her... that's pretty cute!
