I think most people have done this at one time or another (I know I have). But don't make a habit out of it. When it comes time for you to have a performance review, your boss is going to look at how often you were late to work or didn't show up. And it doesn't matter if 99.99% of those times were legit, because if you were absent or late very often, it's going to look bad and could get you fired for poor performance.
So when you ask "should I have done that," I guess it depends on how often you're normally calling in sick. If you are sick a lot, then you shouldn't have, because you can't really afford to miss more work than you already have. But if you don't call in sick very often, then I would say that taking the day off probably isn't going to hurt your work record.

You're not the first, and you won't be the last. Managers aren't stupid, speaking as one, they know how common that crap is. Especially on Saturday mornings.
The first thing managers look at when thinking about bonuses, raises, and promotions is attendance. You can't be a good, productive employee if you aren't there. Incidentally - it ain't high school; just because you were really sick and have a doctor's note doesn't make it alright. Gone is gone.

blah, it happens.. if you consider yourself a hard worker and responsible.. then i don't think it is immature.. I mean as long as you are on top of your bills and your priorities are paid for then its cool.. everyone needs a day to just veg.. i mean if you call in once a week then that might be a problem but if this is your first time ever then i think your on a pretty good road there. lol, happy vegging!

I've done that before, it's not a good feeling lying but sometimes I really just need to not go into work. Don't worry about it, but don't make it a habit.
BTW did you say you had food poisoning? Apparently giving the excuse of "food poisoning" is the most common one, haha.

Lying doesn't make it right. A lie wouldn't last long. Why didn't you just called in and said that you have personal business that needs taking care of. Or told your manager you need a day of to do something. Safe the sickleave for sick-days. Use your annual leave days for these kind of things! Why take a day off for stress relief just to sit and stress because of a lie. Sounds stupid to me.

OH MY GOD! I'm just shocked, SHOCKED, to hear that something like this could happen in this day and age!!!!
By the way, I used to work in the staffing office of a large metropolitan hospital. The best excuse for calling in is conjunctivitis (pink eye). It's highly contagious, so you shouldn't go in and expose your coworkers to it, but it's also short-lived, less than a day.

Sometimes we all get too lazy to do the stuff we are responsible for, just don't let this happen to you too often. You can get back on track if you remember that you have goals to achieve and nobody will achieve them for you.

I often take off for "I'm to cramky today to work days" and the staff appreciates it or in the summer I take "It's too nice out today days"....everybody needs a personal HEALTH day.
Enjoy it.
