They think it's pointless because they already have all the knowledge they believe they need.

No Odd Job man I don't think it's wrong, I think it's God given. Errrrrm oh I can end there though, cos you said why if you do think it's wrong. So you may not want to know why, when I think it's right to investigate.
Anyhow the Bible tells people to investigate. Hang on I shall go look it up............... watch this space babe
OK for instance I think the Bible tells us to check out any organisations that we may join related to religion. 1John 4. If we don't do this as Christians we can get into very deep rancid chip fat. I know this isn't exactly what you wanted, but I really think God wants people to check stuff out. I mean when you look at the lies the Romans told about history and what they got rid of, you just have to keep checking out.
Any how all the best on your quest.

The allegorical meaning behind the "Garden of Eden" story is ( I believe) very sound. Humankind sort knowledge, the consequences of obtaining such wisdom is straightforward- we have knowledge and therefore have the wisdom to choose the "best" path or the "lesser" path... we 'know' : therefore we should accept the consequences of our own actions...... Symbolically we have lost the innocent status of the "Garden of Eden".....God is not punishing us by the "Eden ejection" we have chosen to seek our own path... The rest of the scriptures (once you have sorted out the poetry) - are about God looking after these seekers.
It is a theme explored in many beliefs

God, through Timothy, has told us that we ought to find out for ourselves, as this passage below illustrates. I have never been satisfied to take another human's word about what the Bible says, or even if the Biblical translation is actually what was to be conveyed. At that time I have to lean wholly on God to let me know what the truth is. I therefore don't have the same point of view as many Christians and will likely never come to that end. I think for myself, study for myself, derive my own conclusions, and therefore find much more satisfaction in my beliefs. I can leave other people alone to find out the truth that they need to find out, between them and God.
2 Timothy 2:15
Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

As the theologists don`t have a natural investigative nature, they assume that all those with one must be from some dark force sent to challenge them..!!

Define your terms. As many of the world's greatest minds (Gallileo, Kepler, etc) have been Christians the plain answer is NO. Could it be that you have that problem to some degree?

I'm not sure what they think but it is our duty to search the scriptures. I wouldn't worry about what they think.
PS for viletemp.....Adam and Eve were punished for isobedience to GOD, not for gaining knowledge.

"But of the fruit of the tree that is in the center of the garden, thou shalt not eat of it, lest ye die." (Book of Genesis, paraphrased)
I'd say that threatening to punish inquisitiveness with death is a pretty clear indication that learning is considered wrong.
(Either that, or Somebody is on a power trip.)
