When I worked at a restaurant my schedule was like this 11am-2pm then 430pm-830pm.I hated it.
Did you ever worked split shifts at any of your jobs and did you like it?
I thought most restaurants are 1st shift second shift like a factory.
I asked them to schedule me one 6-8 hour shift
but they said no.You know asking for something
when you work at a fast food is like pulling teeth.

I worked 7pm - 7am on a 2-2-3 shift when I worked at Siemens inspecting fuel injectors for automobiles. Starting on Mondays, I would work 2 nights, off two nights, worked three nights, off two nights, worked two nights, and off three nights. I hated the shift. I could never get used to it. About 2:00- 2:30 I would start dozing off, the freezing cold air conditioner that blow on us, and the monotony of the job did not help matters. The only way that I would keep myself awake during this time was by making sure that my work was caught up, a couple of us would sneak off outside, and take a cigarette break without the supervisor ever knowing any better. We knew all the back ways out.

Restaurants obviously have much more business at mealtimes, so they need more people then. Unless you're very high in seniority, or are in management where there are lots of things like paperwork to do during slow times, you aren't likely to get scheduled for a straight 8 hours, you'd likely either be part time, or have a split shift. They can't afford to pay a full complement of servers when they don't have many patrons.

I don't suppose there is much of anyone who LIKES a split shift, but in certain types of work, it's a fact of life - restaurants and school bus drivers for example.
