Is the difference between Religious people and non-religious people simply that religious people are fundamental dishonest, requiring and providing no proof of their claims, having faith in simple unprovable ideas and stories, and non-religious people are basically honest and truthful, requiring evidence and accepting what is provable.
I find this matches the people I've known well. Including immediate family.

No, I think the main difference is that religious people basically don't believe in themselves and non-religious people do.

Dishonest people are people who know fully well what the truth is and choose to make others think differently.
Religious people believe what they say is true.
The difference between Religious people and Non-Religious people is that Religious people are religious, and Non-Religious people aren't.

no....and you're wrong....non religious people are not capable of providing proof of their claims either....only a guess, as is ours. non religious people are not so different from religious people except the religious people have something called FAITH. rather than the arrogance of not wanting to accept that we are not in complete control of our own lives, and are guided by something far greater than anything on this Earth.

That is a naive belief that you have there.
I am an agnostic -- but I believe in lots of things that I know are impossible to prove. So do you.
Do some reading on Godel's Theorem and you will find that there is no way to prove that Mathematics is consistent. In other words -- we have make a leap of faith just to believe that mathematics works.
Does that make me dishonest?
Religious people who are not true believers are dishonest. But many of them are not dishonest -- merely mistaken.

I don't think religious people are dishonest. They just have a lower evidentiary acceptance criteria for truth. This is what they call faith.

Well religious people can be dishonest, so can non-religious people. People with faith can be set apart from those that follow rituals, and therefore are religious. I think it takes great faith (and is a religion) to believe that life as we know it started from nothing.Where's the evidence for that? Can you test it, recreate it? You weren't there (for either explanation of origin) so how do you know??

Well... It's not the intent of Christianity or most Religions. I can only speak for Judaism and Christianity, but in both Honesty and kindness are valued at the highest level. What is proven is not essentially true either. Christ was the only ever truly honest person ever. He was perfect. He never lied, cheated, or made bogus claims. You may think that claiming you're the son of God is a "bogus" claim, but if you're a truly honest man then no, it's not.

Not bad enough to say it only ONCE?
These mean-spirited attacks will STOP -- on both sides -- or people will fall like dominoes. I don't thumb-down any polite and sincere opinion even if i totally disagree with it. Opinions are fine. Rudeness is NOT!
My thumb feels heavy.

i wouldn't put it that way
but i know many religious people who are dishonest, some even worse...
that makes me wonder, coz they say that they are much better than me just because they have religion.
so i come to the conclusion that religion has got nothing to with being good/honest.

I'm not dishonest... I'd never just believe something "because it's part of my religion" or "just because". And I don't try to shove my dogma down peoples' throats either.
